“not impressed with side.”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

I tried prime Rib and babyrib that came with a large quantity of sides. The way they smoked prime rib was really good. I haven't seen that good primerib without burning meat. Typical BBQ house burns the meat too much but this one was reall nice. Babyribs are just average. I don't see anything special. The sauce was just good..not special.

I first this place for the first time and anticipated much better taste. As others pointed, they use tooo much saesami on every side. I usually take the left over home but I didn't.

I mgiht go back to try other dish on the menu but my expecition for next visit would be lower.

“Good bbq, but nothing that special”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

I was in the Austin/RR/San Antonio area for a couple weeks and managed to eat at several bbq joints in the area. After a few other stops during the course of my stay, the Salt Lick seemed like a disappointment. Not true Texas style bbq, but more of a standard restaurant style bbq. The staff was more than helpful and friendly, but the food was simply average. Great sauce, for sure but there were a couple hole-in-the-wall places that offered less expensive, better quality food. I understand that the Salt Lick has been featured on foodie tv shows, and it is rather famous for it. But the price didn't seem to justify the amount of food we actually received.

“Disappointed with meats and sides”
Reviewed 5 November 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

We have always enjoyed Salt Lick BBQ south of Austin but unfortunately the Salt Lick BBQ in Round Rock is not even close. I had pulled pork that was dry and tough, eating the slaw the only thing you could taste was vinegar, and the potato salad tasted like it was a week old. The restaurant had only 6 total customers at 6:30 p.m. -- after eating their I know why they had only 6 customers.

“Texas bbq”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 via mobile

Food was delicious but not worth the price. Thought it was too pricey for just a bbq joint. Service was average could have been better. Seating is just a bench not comfortable at all. Will I be back? Maybe but its best to probably do take out.

“The meat is great. they need work on the rest.”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

i would not say this is true texas barbecue as far as the sauce or the sides but the meat is spectacular! that's not to say i don't loooove their sauce! it's just more of a mustard base it seems than a texas bbq style. their "potato salad" leaves A LOT to be desired. it is cold potatoes with onions and vinegar? sheesh. not great for sure. the coleslaw is also a vinegar based. i prefer a creamy based cole slaw so this does not get a great review from me either. i'm not a bean fan but i think theirs are decent. their desserts are pretty tasteless. i have tried them multiple times hoping it was just that cook that day but nope. still bad every time. peach cobbler should be sweet. not gluey dough with canned peaches. BUT their RIBS ARE OUTSTANDING as well as their brisket is very tasty and juicy! the inside atmosphere of both locations makes you feel like you're in s summer camp mess hall. i prefer to sit outside at both locations. unfortunately the patio at the round rock location is only open weekends and even that is scarce because they close it if there arent many people outside.
