“Not what its all hyped up to be”
Reviewed 4 July 2013 via mobile

Everyone in this area I spoke with raved about this place. I was pretty disappointed.

We ordered 2lbs ground beef. It was AWFUL. Dry. No flavor. Didn't even taste like beef. Thank god for sauce. We would have wasted almost $30 worth of nasty dry beef. The only way to tolerate the beef was to eat it with sauce. Couldn't enjoy it by itself. Ordered ham as well. Very runny. Not juicy runny, but runny as in had watery flavor instead of ham juices flavor. Also ordered beans and macaronni. That was ok.

Staff was great. Atmosphere is casual and comfy.

Disappointed the main dishes weren't better. Will not go back.

“Come here often !!!”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

Great lean barbeque beef and tender ribs with flavorful sauce. Always get the potato salad and spicy beans to bring home for a big family dinner. One of my fave "go to" places.

“Good Food Good Value Spartan Atmosphere”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

Soulman's has been around since the 70's and to do that you really have to produce some decent barbeque. They still seem to do that. This location in Royse City, Texas seems to have been here forever. Great if you are traveling but not a destination restaurant. The building shares a gravel parking lot with a bunch of "big rig" tractor trailers. It has the appearance of a well-worn Texas roadhouse, both inside and out. They have a low-overhead approach with the buffet. Grab a tray and "walk the line". The counter help was friendly. They offered about 6 different meats. I had a 2 meat plate with 2 vegetables, Texas toast and a drink for $16. Not bad by barbeque standards. Everything else is self-serve. They offer additional condiments and vegetables for the meal. Drink refills are free. Good food. Reasonable price.

“good BBQ”
Reviewed 4 March 2013

I don't know what it is about this particular Soulman's, maybe I've just been lucky at this one. The food here just seems to taste better than others in the area. Used to travel to this area quite a bit, and we'd make this a traditonal stop. Good BBQ.

“Food was good, but now as good as I had been led to believe.”
Reviewed 13 November 2012

I had the turkey plate and found it a little bland. The quality of the meat was good, and the atmosphere was good. Everything was above average, but not by much. Not a place I would go out of my way to do again. The prices are a little high but the quantity, if that's what your looking for, is there.
