Unbelievable disrepair-actual electric wires sticking out underwater in the swimming pool. Tiles falling off pool, iron fence rusting, cushions torn and disgusting. Rooms no better. This place used to be so charming and perfect for families but it is no more. Someone please save it from the wrecking yard!

With fond memories of trips to the Stage Coach Inn restaurant in years past, we made reservations at the motel before checking the reviews. After seeing comments on Tip Advisor, I called ahead and requested a newly renovated room - which I was given. The room had a portable air conditioner that looked new and the tile in the entryway looked in good repair. however the room had a strong musty smell blended with loud floral room freshener. the furnishings looked decades old and the carpet looked dirty. We decided that we could not stay here as our eyes were starting to burn and we were very uncomfortable. They were very gracious in letting us cancel without a penalty and we did appreciate that.

We spent Easter weekend at the Stagecoach Inn. Our room was recently remodeled and also had a great balcony overlooking the property. We had an excellent stay. Breakfast is not included but you can buy breakfast at the coffee shop. Great location to walk to the local shops.

My family stayed here after hearing how quaint it was. That isn't the terminology I would use. Upon arriving we discovered one of the "executive suites" we reserved was in a comets other building than the other 3 rooms the rest of our family was in. Our room smelled musty and wretched and had obviously not been cleaned in a long time as there was dust everywhere. The carpet turned our feet black it was so filthy, the table and countertops were disgusting. There were spiders and webs in every corner, door frame, vent and even in the couch. The bathroom was stained and cracked. The toilet stopped up on the second day. The A/C never worked right. The second night it was 82 in our room. The appliances are a joke. The microwave was from the 80's, the tv was a 15" tube tv. The pillows were flat both them, the and bedding smelled of body odor. The spare pillow in the drawer smelled of vomit. The water is unusable for anything other than showering. Made the coffee taste like ... I can't describe. We used bottled water and brought coffee but had to walk to the lobby to get cups. The grounds are overrun with weeds. The "spa" looked like a stagnant bug breeding pool of yuk. It was like staying at a nursing home that had not had attention since the 70's. I did not choose this place to stay. And my family and I will never be back. The only positive thing about this place is the hot water was nice and hot. The town of Salado is very cute. I found some great deals at a couple if the shops and Johnny's steakhouse and BBQ was amazing after a very crazy and long wait.(1st shrimp boil party) but it is definitely a shop not stay kinda place. At least not at the stagecoach inn!

Grounds are poorly maintained. Rooms are OK however they are charging a 4 star price for a 1 star motel. Hard to walk along sidewalks due to over hanging tree branches and piles of leaves, patio near pool covered in leaves and debris. Carpet in room was pretty dirty and the ac is a emergency type portable ac with no operation instructions. Food at restaurant was edible that is about the best I can say about that. Service in general is lacking.

Room Tip: Book at the Holiday Inn or one of the other motels or there are several B&B available.

On our last day in Salado, Texas Ann and I decided we should try out the Stage Coach Inn Dining Room, after all lots of folks eat there and it has been open in Salado for a very long time.

We did not stay at the Inn since it was so out dated, looked like a very old motel type set up from the outside, if the outside looked bad we knew the rooms could not be much better. We did want to try the rustic, historic dining room that is advertised all over Texas for its food, service, views, and history.

Made our way into the rustic dining area of the Inn about 6PM, were greeted at the door, shown to a table where we sat and talked for about ten minutes before we were waited on. The place was not that full, there were a lot of open tables but there were several large groups with folks leaving and arriving the entire time we were there.

Sadly the dining room was more rustic than historic and needed to be fixed up, no views what so ever and the place just had that sad feeling about it. We were hoping for more, but wanted to experience the food at the Inn.

It appeared the wait staff was not sufficient to cover the entire dining room and due to the lack of waiters and waitresses it was taking a long time to get waited on and even longer to get served. There was also a glitch between the kitchen and the wait staff since food ordered from the menu was not available to be cooked. The wait staff tells you what is on the menu, there is no menu for you to look at so one wonders why or how the kitchen could run out of food.

Ann ordered the turkey and dressing and I ordered the steak based on what the waitress told us was on the menu. We then had hot bread, salad, ice tea and coffee while we chatted and relaxed. It seemed to be taking awhile for our food to come out so Ann started on one of her word puzzles and I just looked about this historic dining room. Apparently historic means the folks that own the Stage Coach Inn do not have to keep the dining room area in a good state of repair because there were issues with the ceiling, pipes running across and blocking the view of the ceiling, visible dust in the ceiling vents, and this historic dining room just looked out of kilter with the way you would think a Stage Coach Inn should look.

Noticed there were two other large dining rooms and a bar area that were not even open and they also looked like they needed some assistance in obtaining the old Stage Coach Inn look.

No booths to be found in the dining room, just tables that would seat four, for large parties they pushed as many tables as they needed together to accommodate the patrons. The tables and chairs were not in the best of shape, the cushion on the chairs looked soft but felt like you were sitting on hard wood so there was not staying for a long meal and conversation at the Inn.

Just as more folks were arriving the waitress came out and told me they ran out of steak and I would have to choose one of the other items. I picked steak because the other items did not appeal to me, but to get the process moving I selected chicken fried steak. More coffee and ice tea and more people watching and puzzle working and our rears getting tired sitting on hard wood and low and behold the food arrived.

Four people would have been happy with the turkey and dressing Ann received, it looked great, smelled great, but we knew it was way too much food. My chicken fried steak on the other hand was one giant battered fried steak that covered half the plate appearing to be more than three folks could it. Once all the fried batter was removed from my steak there was very little steak there. Sadly the potatoes and beans that came with the steak were cold and not seasoned very well.

We ate what we could and then waited for ten more minutes to get the attention of anyone who worked there to come see if we needed anything and bring us a bill. Apparently the wait staff did not assist each other, they waited on their tables and did not help out the others, at times one waitress was running like crazy to wait on her tables while four other wait staff stood about and talked. What appeared to be the manager wandered through the room several times but did not stop and talk to anyone.

Everyone was friendly on the wait staff and at the greeter station but they should be with what we were charged for our one and only visit to the Stage Coach Inn.

We finally got out of the dining room at 7PM which would have been fine if we had historical items to look at, views of Salado and the river, good food and service so the time waiting to be served and waiting on food could have been spent talking and not wondering about what was going on.

Sadly many folks will go to the Stage Coach Inn based on all the signs and good write ups about it, maybe we were just there on a bad day, but I doubt it. The Stage Coach Inn needs a makeover and friendly and effective manager, wait staff, and kitchen staff that can keep food on hand and cook it properly and serve it in manageable proportions.

Sad time for the Stage Coach Inn Dining Room.

We had a non-smoking king sized room that had lots of room, but we didn't enjoy our stay. The room had a pungent stale smell that was awful so we left all doors open and tried to air it out )(which didn't really help). The bed was so hard it was almost like sleeping on the floor. The furnishings were not in bad shape, but very outdated. We had a first floor room with a sliding glass door opening onto a small patio. The door bearings were in bad shape and made it very difficult to even open the door. It would have been a great location since the patio was only a few steps from the hot tub/spa, but it wasn't working properly. They could not get it to heat over 93 degrees all day! The only nice thing about the room was that our A/C worked great. The couple next door said their A/C quit working all together! I won't be back.
