“Super history for the family”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

Best preserved and restored civil war area fort in Texas! Tremendous history, including the Buffalo Soldiers, well presented in numerous buildings. But for something really special, try and come during Christmas at Old Fort Concho. 19th century and early 20th century in a captivating environment. Always on the 1st weekend of December, great shopping, demonstrations, kids events all presented with period wear and atmosphere.

“Step back into History!”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

There is a little bit of everything at Fort Concho; My all time favorite is Christmas at Old Fort Concho! Venders from across the state come with their rustic goods, Pancakes for breakfast to help support local charities, cannons blasting, vintage calvery marching... Who wouldn't have fun?! Aside from cookie decorating compotitions and art exhibits, one might find refuge in an old barrack or captain quarters and check out artifacts from long ago. Local historians and interested San Angeloans play the role of tour guide and oral historians to onlookers searching for a history long since forgotten.

“Unexpected History”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

I grew up thinking forts were big and surrounded by wooden palisades. Living in San Angelo I learned that there was another side of the old west that didn't make it into many movies. Historic Fort Concho shows how the old west was throughout much of west Texas. If you are lucky to be in San Angelo for Christmas in Old Fort Concho you get an extra bonus. This was a must do while my family lived here.

“Historic Old Ft. Concho”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

The restored buildings and grounds of Ft. Concho are some of the best maintained historical sites in the country. Guided tours with very knowledgeable staff members or walk and look tours are available. The annual "Christmas at Old Ft. Concho" program ", the first weekend in December, features all types of frontier activities as they would have been in the late 1800's. Any time of the year is a good time to visit Ft. Concho, but the Christmas activities are the most rewarding.
