“Great hotel in Shamrock TX”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

This was my first time staying at Sleep Inn and this hotel gave me a very good impression of the brand. We stopped in Shamrock to rest for a night on the driving trip to OKC. We didn't get a room in the Holiday Inn Express, as it was sold out, so we went to Sleep Inn and got a suite room with a special walk-in rate, that was cheaper than the published internet rate. The room was modern, nice, and spacious. The beds were nice and comfy. Room appearance was modern, clean, and fresh. Breakfast was not bad either. Overall, our family had a nice one-night stay in this hotel.

This motel was just where we needed to stop for a cross-country trip, and it had received decent reviews. So we made reservations. The front desk staff was friendly upon arrival and very helpful as I'll explain in a minute.

But our first impression when we walked into the spacious suite was "Wow, this has a lot of wasted floor space!" However, when we first walked into the room we had to manuever our luggage around a dinette table and chairs only to walk onto the dance-hall-size carpet in the bedroom area. As we looked into the bathroom, we realized this was a handicapped accessibility suite. (We had not booked this option, and it was not mentioned upon check-in that this was handicapped.) Thus the spacious carpet area for wheelchair mobility. Given this was a handicapped accessibility suite, there would be major problems: a wheelchair would have difficulty getting around the kitchenette upon entering the room and would have difficulty getting into the "walk-in" closet which did not open wide enough for a wheelchair. (We have experience with parent in wheelchair.)

Other room observations: plenty of mirrors, only one small luggage rack, desk chair but no desk, low water pressure in shower (no tub), and an electricity nightmare. Regarding the electricity: we could not determine which switches controlled which light fixtures or the a/c. After we tried several combinations of on-off, we called the front desk. The woman promptly came to our room and after several minutes had the a/c running and the lamps lighted by the bed (without also turning on the kitchen light).

Also breakfast was cold although advertised as hot. Granted this was a suite with plenty of kitchen space so we could have prepared our own food. But we typically look for motels with hot breakfast, so this was a consideration in choosing this site.

All in all, it was hard to get that "at-home" feel in this suite. But thankfully the room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Room Tip: Don't choose a handicapped accessible room unless you need it.

Thank you for recently being our guest and for the review. I was very glad that you found the hotel to be clean and the staff very friendly, however, on behalf of the hotel staff I am writing to let you know how concerned we are about your inconvenience with the layout of the handicapped accessible suite that you stayed in. The Guest Service Agent joins me in apologizing for not mentioning upon check-in that this was a handicapped suite.

Again please accept our sincere apology for the inconvenience, and would like to suggest that you call ahead the next time you are in this area for a reservation, so we can guarantee a suite that is not handicapped accessible. We are committed to total guest satisfaction, and we look forward to serving your future lodging needs on your next visit to Shamrock, Texas.

Just what you would want for a place to sleep when you are on a road trip. We had a clean large room. Good bed. Quiet. The motel is near the highway. Plenty of convenient parking places. I definitely would recommend this motel.

I had read the Trip Advisor reviews and stayed at the Sleep Inn as it had the best reviews, even compared to nearby towns. And I was not disappointed. The room was spacious (handicapped) and comfortable. Good internet. Lots of plug ins and easy to reach! Good breakfast. A decent fitness room. Nice greet at the front desk both coming and going. Bed was good. Lots of fluffy pillows. Quiet. Had a refrigerator and microwave. Coffee pot worked well. Green grass and horses viewed from back side window.

Wish all hotels were this good.

Room Tip: room 110 is a "green" view even though it is the access ramp to the interstate. And it wa...

I can't understand why this hotel doesn't have 5 star ratings. Was wonderful!. Large rooms (Suite), friendly staff, great breakfast, clean , comfortable beds, great shower, ample thick towels, What a great find!. What is not a 5 star rating about this place? Can't figure it out!. This was one of our stops during our cross country 8,000 mile road trip. One of our favorite hotels. In fact because of this property, we stayed at as many Sleep Inn and Suites we could find, or could get reservations. The Front Desk Manager (Rachel) was as if she was welcoming us into her own personal home!. The outside of the property is nothing like the grand entry with a fantastic spiral staircase!.. Shamrock , Tx. used to be a popular stop on the original Route 66, and the charming town is like a step back in history. Don't think there is anywhere that would have nicer , more friendly people than Shamrock!.

Room Tip: We were on first floor (I have a need for a lower floor since we travel with a service dog) and it w...
