the one staff we dealt with was very nice. however, bathrooms were dirty, hair in tub, corners of the wall, etc. there was NO breakfast because "someone" forgot??? to go to the store...not even a cup of coffee anywhere. we would suggest moving on down the street where there more hotels with better pricing. booked this thru Orbitz, so would not reccommend them either. Obviously Orbitz staff has not visited the facility.

We went on a fishing trip and the staff at WindWater were very accommodating. They let us park our boat in the parking lot and asked us how the fishing went.
Overall - Great Value for people not wanting to pay for a 4 star hotel. Clean, friendly and in a great location. We will be staying at this hotel again.

I definitely recommend this hotel if you want to stay with your kids in a clean, comfort and safe place! My husband and I were looking in the web for hotels in the South Padre Island to stay just one night, because that was the time we have for our vacations. We found this hotel, which we never had known before, and seeing the photos and considering the very low rate -54 dollars, including taxes for a room for 5 people- we decided to book. And I have to say that we enjoyed to stay in this hotel! We realized that it was not in the bay side, considering the address -the hotel is located in the main street of the Island, two blocks from the beach, and it is something the travelers must know; but it was so fun for the family to walk only two little blocks and found the beach for less than 100 dollars that we would have paid if we have stayed in the hotels near the beach!
The room was very clean, it had a microwave and a frigobar; the pool and the spa were very clean and also we had the chance to make a grill! In fact, the hotel has a mobile grill station to make a delicious barbecue at night. The hotel is very safe and the breakfast service was very apropiate -cereal, juices, coffee and toast bread- more than we have got in another more expensive hotels. If we have the chance we would like to come back.

Paid $100+ a night for this place. This was not a resort. All hotels on the island are expensive, but they really need to re-evaluate charging folks this kind of money for a place that would regulary not charge $50 a night somehwere else. It would be worth staying for that kind of money if you have a room on the back that over looks the canal. But it is way overpriced for the standard room. Our room was clean, but did not have a working fire alarm, or phone, or ice bucket and could not sleep from 3:30 am-7:00 am because of the noise from drunks in front of our room. Staff told us to call the police instead of them to complain about noise from these other guests. Did have new air conditioner, new coffee maker, iron and the staff was nice.

The hotel is old and the problems with the coffee makers persists, but the "bayside" ground floor rooms have a sliding door that goes right out to a common area on the bank of a tiny little lagoon off the bay. It's not a scenic paradise, but great pan fishing (or bait fishing) can be done right in your back yard. It's also well lit so you can keep fishing all night! There are some larger fish here, but the pan fish bite constantly, all times of day.

This property has new owners and have a huge undertaking since the last huricane. Previous owners closed the property, and the new owners have been cleaning and fixing and painting and ........, but progress does show.
The housekeeping MUST get better or the new owner is doomed for failure. You can fix everythinhg up, but with poor housekeepers it wont be pretty for guests. Right now, don't expect too much, the prices are the best on the island at this on-going remodel project. Parking lot is tight for larger vehicles, but that's every hospitalities issue here at SPI. Breakfast needs to get more selection than bread and cereal, and run normal hospitality hours, right now its 8am-9:30am, but they are fixing a new place to hold the breakfast so it might get better. Pool is OK. There is an guest elevator in the middle of the property. if you try use stairs, the cars are so close together it is hard to squeeze past the cars without touching them with luggage. Park away from the stairs. The location is very nice, the rooms are average sized for an older property, cement between floors eliminates up/down noise. The channel to the rear is nice to sit on a balcony and watch boaters come in at night - across the channel are homes and rental condos. There is a nice courtyard in the rear with nice seating, and you can fish from the deck. Plans are to install a boat dock in the rear in the future, which will make this a super place for anyone fishermen and people wanting to boat to the bay. As I said earlier, "Don't expect more than you get for what you pay." Give the new owner a chance to work his majic, it could be well worth putting up with some issues while he is getting the place up to speed.
