The Sapphire South Padre Island
Reviewed 5 August 2013

7/29/13 to 8/2/13 We treated our teenage grandsons to five days at South Padre Island and stayed at the Sapphire in a two bedroom condo on the 11th floor. The condo was well appointed and very clean. It is managed by Coastal Properties. Our grandsons enjoyed surf lessons, boogie boarding, the fitness center and we all took the sand castle building lessons with Andy Hancock. Be sure to call Andy as he is a master sculptor and very entertaining as well. We met Mary Lou, the GM of the Sapphire, and her husband, Frank. They are lovely people and very serious about making the Sapphire the premier property in South Padre. We will definitely return to the island and wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the Sapphire.

My Family stayed here for a week in the north tower on one of the upper floors. All I can say is WOW! Much more then I expected. We had a beautiful unit that had balconies facing both the ocean and the Laguna Madre. The décor was very elegant and romantic. Everything we could have needed was there for us. It was surreal having a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise from one balcony. Then having a cocktail and watching the sun set from the other. Our kids looked forward to eating breakfast and lunch on the balcony every day. We spent a lot of time at the beautiful pool that seemed to be all ours at times. The peace and quite was welcomed. It was nice not having a huge amount of people yelling and screaming like most of the other pools at other places. They have a nice spa and a really nice gym as well. A week went by to fast. Going for another week next month.

We have stayed in 1803 this year and last. I thought the price was reasonable for a 2 bedroom nice condo. The master bedroom has a great comfy bed. The kitchen is great. Like any rental, it does need a bit of work. I gave a list to Coastal Lifestyle (rental agency) when we left last year and I was told that the (small) problems would be fixed before we returned this year. Not one item on the list was fixed but you know what? It didn't matter. The view is great. Amenities can't be beat. I will return next year but have to take another apartment because someone is renting it for 3 months while we only rent for the month of February.

Room Tip: The 19th floor is supposed to be the best with 12' ceilings.

We stayed here in June 12. Our condo was top notch but belonged to a friend so I can't speak to the condos in the rental pool. The people who work here are professional and accommodating. The grounds were clean and well maintained. The covered parking was nice and the pool was clean. Overall a great place!

We stayed here on a little mini vacation and the experience was lets say, "not what you pay for".
Yes they keep the pool and landscaping up pretty well, but everything else is going south. They have a nice outside bar area if it were open. It is rusted up and trash is just thrown in it like it is some kind of dumpster. The maintenance of the place is just very poor. For such a nice place it is sad to see it just falling apart.

Room Tip: If you would like to stay here stay at the adjoining hotel the "Pearl."

Our family ended up in the Bungalows at the Sapphire (units 109 and 110). What an amazing experience! Beyond the properties being amazing, Coastal Lifestyles and their team were phenomenal! The company exceeded our expectation by assuring that every detail was catered too. Including my wife and I there were ten (10) family members and there were no complaints about the units, the grounds, and the timeliness of responses to our needs.

I applaud Coastal Lifestyles for their amazing work! While I certainly recommend any place at the Sapphire; I recommend any units that are managed by Coastal Lifestyles.

Room Tip: We managed to get the bungalows 109 and 110 but are decorated exceptionally well. If you are looking...

We typically stay at Bridgepoint and love the spacious rooms along with the large windows which provide bay and beach views. We decided to try The Sapphire due to the newness and the large, updated pool.

We check into a two bedroom condo at the Sapphire on a Sunday - non-functional things in our room, blinds broken, etc. Coastal upgraded us to a nicer room. That evening the power went out on part of the island. The Sapphire emergency generator was dead so there were people stuck on the elevator for hours. Many checked out. The next evening due to the power outage, our fire/smoke alarm in our room continued to go off for two hours. Coastal sent people out to repair the electrical issue. The following afternoong a baby pooped in the pool so the pool was closed that evening and early the next morning. The remainder of our stay was excellent due to Coastal.

Sapphire review: Pros: Very modern, nice workout room, theater, and teen center. Fantastic pool, modern rooms - very clean without carpet for all the germ phobes. Very family oriented. Probably one of the nicest places to stay on the island.

Cons: The pool bar was closed, no music outside, not very lively like many other destinations. The workout facility has nice machines but no towels, water, sound on the tvs - no headsets provided. No ice machines on the premises. You have to rent the beach umbrellas 30/daily - unlike Bridgepoint next door. The umbrellas are included.

Coastal review: Although we had many problems upon our arrival, our rental management company, Coastal was so attentive and took care of our problems - many out of their control. Debbie of Coastal (one of the owners) extended our stay, delivered a gift to our room :-), and made sure we were 100% satisfied. No matter where you stay on the island, Coastal will lead you in the right direction and take care of you during your stay. They made our experience so enjoyable and their staff is attentive and catering. I am not sure it would have been the same had we not booked our vacation through Coastal. I will book through them again regardless of where we stay. The problems we encountered were out of their control, although they took responsibility and made things right!
