La Internacional Condos
Reviewed 10 May 2013

The room we looked at online had a picture of the view from the balcony. The picture was cropped, the real view was of other balconies and the side of the building next door, off in the distance beyond all the obstructions was the view of the beach. The condo itself was kept up well, the pool is near the street and does not have a view. The place is close to the beach but it depends what condo you are renting. The price is good but I would rather they be honest about the view as that is important to us and was one of the reasons for choosing this rental.

Room Tip: Make sure your rental is on the beach not on the interior.

For the beach access, you cannot beat the price. Once on the ground floor, walked out the back and literally right onto the beach. That was what made me want to stay here and that was the only reason I continued my stay after all the issues we had.

We knew we were going to arrive late. I made arrangements with the managers for a late arrival. There was extreme miscommunication between the 2 people who manage this condo. We arrived around 11pm and there was no one around to let us into the condo. I called both phone numbers twice and no one answered. We finally had to go find a hotel at midnight. Although they were profusely apologetic the next day, that was EXTREMELY annoying. We finally got checked in and the very next day, the AC quit working that night. Again, no one answered my calls for assistance. We finally got a response at 1am that they would call a repairman. Had to wait around all morning the next day to get that resolved. We did get compensated one night's rent. We could not open the sliding glass door or window to let the air flow through because there are no screens on anything.

It was good that this was a second floor condo because the sliding glass door did not lock. It was VERY heavy door so it took a lot of strength to open it from the inside. I suppose it didn't lock because it would take a gargantuan person to muscle it open from the outside.

Wreaked of moth balls. All of my luggage and clothes stink of moth balls and had to wash everything when I got home. No wifi in any of the condos.

Beach access is what this first floor "condo" had to offer our family. Beyond the access, it reminded me of a high end cheap motel with a kitchen. In our week stay, we collected 6 dying roaches (not water bugs, which would be much larger) in the bathroom and the kitchen - at least they were dying. The front door required us to body slam it open in order to get in. A little frustrating. The sliding glass door that accessed the beach would stick such that it took serious muscle power to move it open enough to slide our little frames through. This was our access route to the beach. The slider locked and had a huge block of wood to secure it so in terms of safety of strangers accessing our belongings, it was pretty safe from a southern engineering perspective. The slats covering the sliding door did not "slide" so opening the blinds was not an easy task.

From an aesthetic point of view, the overall size of the condo was very small. We had to stay seated when indoors so as not to bump into one another. It had a nice coat of paint on the walls and some very fun pictures of local scenery. The granite kitchen counter was nice. The floors were cheap tile but for the location, it was exactly as it should be.

The view was not bad but you had to stand at the sliding glass door to see the waves. Yes, there is a sand dune approx 30 feet from the window, but that added ambiance to the experience and gratefully blocked the massive crowd 4 and 5 rows deep from seeing inside! The dune had some amazing wildlife in it as well as beautiful flowers. To me, that was an enhancement. I was a bit disappointed that this condo did not have, at minimum, a fold out table and chairs for guests to sit outside and enjoy the tiny patio. Other condos, especially on the 2nd and 3rd floor, had outdoor furniture for guests to enjoy their outdoor time.

The bathroom was very small and pretty old, like a small frame home would have inside. Very tough for a condo that advertises that it "sleeps 6". If that "6" is 4 grown women and 2 grown men, can you imagine getting ready to go out to dinner or do much of anything, much less using the restroom. The bathroom door did not lock. Not a bonus for us.

The mattresses were all 3 caved in the middle. We went and purchased a blow up mattress after our first night due to rolling to the center of the mattress repeatedly. The comforters on the beds were damp when we arrived due to the high humidity in the space. The TV in the living room was a very small old TV that took approximately 20 minutes to "warm up" or become "un" fuzzy. However, there was a second TV in the bedroom and there was cable. Wifi was not provided. The owner forgot the Wifi access code. This was not good since cell service for ATT is non-existent in the condo (NO SERVICE). Luckily we had some skills and were able to reset the Wifi access. This to me, however, is a safety issue as there is no phone in the condo. There were plenty of towels, toilet paper, trash bags, cleaning supplies so that made our life easy.

As far as the grounds, they were immaculately maintained. The groundskeeper seemed to be a very nice gentleman and was always working. The grass was well maintained. The plants were spectacular. The pool was very clean. The hot tub, well...HOT. There is a sign on the fence that said no one under "8" can get in the hot tub so that left our 7 year old out of luck when the 10 year old wanted in. But that was ok because it was posted. The beach access area was very nice, with a clean water area to rinse off when returning from the sand.

The front desk person was not versed in English and was also untrained in pleasantries such as "how may I help you". They also changed our access code (a code you needed not only to get ONTO the property, but to get out) and then were not available when we tried to call and get the new code. This was very frustrating as we needed to get to our vehicle. Parking was also VERY limited - one slot per condo. For a condo that boasts multiple sleepers, you either need to have everyone in ONE vehicle or take your chances on the street for parking. We ended up parking 5 minutes away and had to walk with our groceries. It was also rather frustrating. The front desk person was not very helpful in explaining this either. She simply stated "we have a lot of people on the weekends. One car per room". Nice!

For a couple of $20s less per night, we could have stayed at a nice hotel and had more amenities, good quality mattresses and a private beach. Upon return from our vacation, we did further research on other beachfront condos on SP and found that for $25 more a night, we could have stayed in significantly nicer accommodations. Next time, we will not take links or photos from family.

Small, roaches, bad beds, damp, poor doors, very crowded beach (rows deep). Although it is children and pet friendly, will probably pass on a return.

Room Tip: Make sure you inquire about items such as "is there a place for me to sit outside the condo and...

This was a nice experience. The condo was recently renovated and was in good clean condition. Very roomy for a 1 bedroom. The building itself is one of the older condos on island, but it too was in good repair. Could NOT BEAT the location - right on the beach! We came down the elevator and were less than 40 paces from the beach access. The WANA WANA restaurant/beach bar is right next door - what a plus. Liked the free shuttle that would take you downtown and anywhere else on the island. Ample parking. Great hot tub waterfall. We felt safe walking the beach at night.

If you want a high end condo - this is NOT it. But if you want a nice clean condo for a reasonable price, you will like this one. We have already booked a week for the summer!

Room Tip: The condos here run from very nice to not so great. Be sure to ask for pictures. We liked 214, but...

Do not take children to this condo. They are not allowed to get into the hot tub. There was no one in the pool or hot tub area and our son was thrown out. They have to be 18 to get in so our 13 year old could not swim on cold days. The manager also seemed to dislike children. Go somewhere else if you have kids.

I stayed in room 108 with my husband and young son for an extended weekend. We loved that the beach was only a few steps away from the back door, but that is where the positives end. The moment we stepped inside, we were immediately disappointed. The condo was tiny, and smelled terrible like mildew. Someone had sprayed a ton of air freshener in the condo prior to our arrival, most likely to conceal the odor, but it didn't work. The furniture is old and worn out. The bathroom is out-dated, tiny, and felt dirty just because it was so old. The beds were as hard as rocks, and the corners of the bedframes stuck out to the point that I cut my ankle on the bed on our first day there. The outside entry way that leads to the front door was also dirty and stinky, and had dead roaches laying all over the place. It was strange that you had to walk down a long dark hallway to get to the front door of the condo. Also, the sliding glass back door does not open properly and the locks do not work on it. You have to wedge a paice of wood into the metal track to "lock" it. The vertical blinds on the back door are missing several slats, so anyone passing be can easily look in. Being on the first floor was a plus. Take note that although the beach is right outside the back door, it cannot be seen due to a large hill. You must walk around the hill to access the beach. The pool area was pretty nice, although small. The beach is the only thing that made the whole trip worth it. That is where we spent most of our time. We wanted to spend as little time inside the condo as possible.

We stayed for 4 nights and this condo was presented to us through photos and such as a beachfront property...they forgot to mention the BIG sand dune right infront of our condo blocking the view of the beach. It was easy beach access and we enjoyed that very much. The A/C had a moldy smell to it when it came on. The dishwasher was rusted and we were afraid to turn it on. We were unable to lock the sliding door, so a piece of wood was already available to place between the doors so they could not be opened (how convenient). Although the condo was very nicely decorated, the underside of the kitchen table was rotten (pieces of wood were falling off). We would recommend to others, but beware when it says beachfront, you can't see it because of the HUGE sand dune. The pool area was very small. If it was worth the time/money - it was ok, not the greatest deal. During our stay, we did see a couple of cockroaches coming from the outside into the condo through the sliding door. If you are looking for a huge place, this is certainly not and that was shocking to see when we walked in for the first time. A bar right beside the condo would be a plus for singles and spring breakers.
