This is an answer for all those complaints about rentals at Ocean Vista Towers in South Padre Island TX. If you are looking to rent a condo in the building, be aware: “A large majority of the owners do not like rentals!” The employees and management ONLY answer to the owners and are not employed to cater to the renters. This is not a HOTEL.
Each morning the condo management put out umbrellas and chairs for condos, yes we do. Those umbrellas are OWNED by the owners of each unit and as well as you, we have the right to set them anywhere on the beach. Last time I checked, SPI’s beach is for the public. We put the umbrellas in the middle because we have the right to do so. I wonder why your friend could not move left or right to set his canopy…
If the pool is filthy, we only blame the rentals. They are the only ones that do not care about the building. We the owners pay thousands on monthly and special assessments, insurance, etc. and we take care of our property. Our maintenance cleans the pool once a day. We, the owners cannot use the pool facilities on high season for that same reason. So you see, the rentals take over our building all the way from the end of May to mid August.
If the condo you stayed at was not well maintained or smell like rotten egg, why did you complain to Service 24? They are managing that particular unit. The same with the Rules and Regulations of the House, it is the obligation of Service 24 to give you those rules so you read them to avoid an early call like the one you had. To tell you the truth, the hanging towels make the building look like a ghetto. We are a 1st class beach front resort and we do not allow ghetto habits.
FYI, the money you paid Service 24 for the rental, is only shared between Service 24 and the owner of the unit. Ocean Vista Building gets $0 or nada or caput. On the other hand, the cost for the repair of any damages created on the common grounds of the building and the extra work of our maintenance personnel is shared by all the owners!
Gee, we are glad you aren’t coming back!

The employees and management are rude and inhospitable. Each morning the condo management put out umbrellas and chairs for condos that have rented them whether they plan to use them or not. Plus they insist on putting them right in the middle of the beach area. A friend of ours arrived early in the morning to put up his canopy. There was plenty of open beach space, so the condo management company could have just put up the umbrellas a few feet over, but instead they put up the umbrellas right in front of my friend's canopy, obstructing the view of the beach. Rude!
The pool was also filthy. Each day there was a giant glob of hair and sunscreen accumulated in the north part of the pool. Disgusting!
The condo was not well maintained. From the 1st day there was a very strong sulfer (rotten egg) smell coming from the kitchen area. This is a sign of unmaintained water heater and plumbing. Yuck!
Our rental company was Service24 and I wouldn't recommend them either. They didn't do anything about the sulfer smell (like give us a discount), plus they charged us $14 off our security deposite because we got a stain on a towel. Jerks!

We stayed at OCEAN VISTA #706 (DO NOT RENT THIS CONDO!) this August and I remembered it because we also stayed there the previous year. it smelled like rotten eggs! Last year I reported the problem but the obviously did not do anything about it because this year the smell was worse. Mentioned it again and got the same blank face reponse. I not be renting from service24.com again and certainly not this unit. I might give the condos another shot though...

OTHER THAN THAT GREAT LOCATION AND EASY ACCESS TO THE POOL. :)

The condo (although dated) and view were fantastic, the short and easy walk to the beach even better. The condos offer a shower/spray area to clean off sand which was great. The building being centrally located on the island made for an easy walk to shops, bars, and restaurants. Thats about the only plus. Complaining about the dated condos will do no good seeing as they are all individually and privately owned. The pool and hot tub were very crowded at all hours of the day. The pool supposedly closes at 11 but was filled with loud, screaming drunk teens until the early hours of the morning. (the "security guard" only works on weekends). If you have an issue, DO NOT expect the office staff to help you, they look down upon you if you are simply renting and only seem to acknowledge owners of the condos. They make you feel extremely unwelcomed. We also received a call one morning telling us we would be fined if we did not remove our drying towels that were hanging on the balcony (was not made aware of this rule at any point so the threat of a fine seemed absurd). Also, if coming with a family, please note that renters may only have one vehicle in the gated area, additional vehicles must park on the street. The "free wi-fi" seems to only work near the office. For the thousands we paid to stay here a week, we will be looking elsewhere next time.

We picked Ocean Vista due to last minute planning. While the view from the 11th floor is awesome, the condo itself needs some attention. The beds were terrible, the 2nd bathroom commode seat was cracked / broke in half. The showers were very cheap and had almost zero water pressure. The dryer was dirty and full of lint. The tile in the kitchen looked dirty. The ad promised free internet but we never could get it to work and when we called the desk they were no help. The patio furniture was all rusted and ugly , thankfully we brought our own. The property only allows a car to be parked inside the secured area, so we had to leave one on the street. Also there is a unwritten policy not to dry your beach towles on the balcony --- we got a call early one morning to remove them.

As said before the only thing going for this unit is the view.....as my daughter said, "I hope you are not paying much, this place is a dump". Unfortunately you pay for a view.

Our family has stayed at several different condos on SPI over the past few years. The family has grown and now includes 2 small children for a total of 8. We require at least a 3 bedroom/3 bath accommodation. We prefer a smaller complex and Ocean Vista filled our needs nicely. The condo itself was roomy, well furnished with comfortable bedding. The only complaint I had was the lack of supplies provided. Service 24 was our realty co., I don't know if it was their stingy supplies or the condo owners, whichever it was a slap in the face to have buy all cleaning supplies and paper goods, this doesn't happen at most other condos on the island. The grounds were clean, elevators worked well, pool was great and the walkway to the beach was easy. The office personnel were helpful. We would stay here again but only in a unit with internet!

In June, my family spent 5 nights in the Ocean Vista Condominiums on South Padre Island, TX. The location is very nice, right on the beach and central to most restaurants. The sized of the condo, 2 BR, Bath with full kitchen is good as well.

The condo on the outside is fairly old and decrepit looking, as are the common spaces. The A/C had problems keeping up with the hot weather, and the smell from the vents was VERY fishy...If you are staying here, you need to ask the rental company (PI rentals) when and if your condo has been remodelled. The interior of ours, had new kitchen counters but really old bathroom fixtures, poor mattresses and old carpets. I would have thought for over $400/night a better accomodation would have been provided. At 200 or so this would have been acceptable, but for $400, I think the value is not there.

So, I would recommend that you understand you are getting a nice location, good view, large space, but not very nice interior...

  • Liked — unit was very spacious
  • Disliked — the interior was old and shabby
