I'm only writing this review because I first wrote the restaurant and explained my issues. I never got any sort of a reply back, which seems to fit their way of doing things.
I've been to Sakekawa multiple times (both locations) and have always had a good or great experience. That is why we selected Sakekawa for my mother's birthday dinner last month (Jan 31, 2014).
It was possibly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had.
We had a reservation and had to wait an additional 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Once seated we waited 20 minutes for our drinks. Apps took even longer. Once we finished our first round drinks nearly a half-hour passed before they were refilled. Multiple drinks and dishes came out incorrect. Half our table was served their dinner, then ten minutes later the other half was served. Most of the first group were done eating before the second group got their food. Keep in mind we ordered at the same time.
My daughter's hibachi shrimp came out room temperature and was spongy. I sent my wife's tuna tartar back because it sat so long in the kitchen that the chips underneath were soggy. When they brought it back, it was a smaller serving size (4 pc instead of 6).
My sushi came out warmer than I wanted, but still edible. However, I had to wait another 15 minutes for wasabi and a soy sauce dish. By the time I had wasabi, soy and ginger and was ready to eat, the sushi was warm. I sent it back and asked that it be removed from my bill. I didn't eat dinner that night.
I've only sent food back at a restaurant 3 or 4 times in my life, but when I have, the manager came to the table IMMEDIATELY to make sure we were well taken care of. That didn't happen this time, even after the SECOND dish went back.
We spent the entire night trying to get ANYONE'S attention, because our server would only come around every 15-20 minutes. The food was bad and the service was worse. I've never experienced anything like this before -- especially at a place I regard as highly as I used to regard Sakekawa.
At the end of the night we got a feeble "Sorry it was bad tonight. I PROMISE it'll be better next time you come back" from the server. I was so angry I couldn't even respond to her. I cannot imagine why she would think any of us would ever come back there again.
We were a large group -- there were ten of us. But we came to Sakekawa with the sole intent of ordering a lot of food and a lot of drinks. We didn't even have the opportunity to do so because the service was so poor. We likely would have had twice as many drinks if the server had at least stopped by every once in a while to check on us. Her tip suffered GREATLY because of the poor, poor job she did.
Perhaps management should have assigned two people to our group (at least to run food and refill drinks) since our server obviously couldn't handle it. At least we wouldn't have sat there all night with empty glasses.
