“Good stay”
Reviewed 18 July 2011

I stayed at the resort for a few days with my family. Overall it is a good resort. The pool areas were very nice. There were lots of fun activities planned as well (smores, movies under the stars, etc.). The food and spa menu were reasonably priced. The food itself was fair to good. Service was better than that seen at the hyatt, marriott, etc but not as good as what is seen at elite properties. We stayed in the two bedroom George Mitchell suite. The room was very nice and spacious and appropriately sized. Overall it was a good stay and I would consider it again. There is a $10 charge for high speed internet.

My significant other and I spent the weekend here to get away from the working life in Houston, and we had a wonderful stay. The staff was cheery (even with our probably stupid questions about what to do in the Woodlands) and the grounds are beautifully kept. Not a super modern hotel, but that's not what we wanted. We wanted somewhere that felt more like home with views of nature, and that's what we got.

Used the shuttle to the Woodlands Mall, was graciously picked up and dropped off at the times we requested. Visited the pool a lot, there was ample space to swim around, great poolside staff passing out frozen fruit, unlimited water, nice umbrellas. Was able to get a golf cart to take back to our room far back in the resort if needed.

Best of all, free parking! This was a huge factor in deciding where to stay and I was so happy not to have to deal with valet/complicated garages/weird ticket systems while on my vacation. Just a gorgeous experience. Can't wait to come back.

The resort was wonderful, the room was spacious and very comfortable. We stayed by the pool. Everyone there was friendly. The staff that services you around the pool went out of their way to take care of everything. The kids loved the pool.
My husband and 7 year old played golf. The course was beautiful.
Didn't care much for the dining choices. The main dining room was expensive for dinner. Breakfast buffet was wonderful. There should be another lower priced restaurant, besides the poolside cafe.
We will be back.

The rooms in old section of the resort are quite dated. Kind of a shock when even modest priced chain hotels have updated, modern decor. However the rooms did have flat screen tvs and I did appreciate the fact that they have a great selection of cable TV channels- when you travel with kids, it's nice to be able to turn on the disney channel for a little downtime. The grounds are very nice with tons of friendly ducks and other waterfowl.Very cool! The property is a bit spread out but they will provide transportation if you need it. I actually never called for a cart-it's nice to walk around the property and nothing is really that far away unless you have mobility issues.
The pool is great-fun waterslides! And they have entertainment (clowns, face painting for the younger kiddos). Lots of shade available. The servers are all very friendly and passed out complimentary frozen grapes and orange slices-nice touch! The poolside menu was reasonably priced too.
Didn't get a chance to use it but the workout room was large with lots of equipment.
The breakfast buffet was great-tons of choices and everything was delicious-surprising for a buffet!
Overall our entire group-ages 4-75 had a great time!

Room Tip: May want to get a room in the new section. The rooms in the older part of the hotel are dated.

I enjoyed my stay at the Woodland Resort very much. I had a room overlooking the lake and woods which was very peaceful and quiet. The main pool was alive with familIes. A a great opportunity tp people watch while staff handed out frozen grapes, oranges, snow cones, good food and and tasty beverages. The very friendly and helpful international staff were always available with golf carts for getting around, free shuttles for shopping, and suggestions for resort activities. I will return!

Room Tip: Families should stay in the new buildings by the main pool.

We went to The Woodlands Resort over the 4th of July. We had been in Houston for a baseball game the pervious day, so we found ourselves arriving at the resort very early (10am). We were not sure we would be able to check in so early, but the girl at the front desk said there were rooms ready and it was not a problem. Yay! We had originally booked a Forest Lake room, but when we we arrived, we asked about moving to the pool side rooms. There were some available and even though they cost more, we decided to do that and I'm glad we did. With 2 kids, it was just more convenient to be closer to the pool area. After our smooth and friendly check in, we went to the room and we were very satisfied. Everything was very clean and spacious. We then spent the rest of the time at the pool. The pool area was wonderful. Extremely clean (the pool and surrounding area) and the waitstaff was always helpful and attentive.
As for what I would like to see changed: free internet! This is a common amenity at most hotels. Also, it would be nice to have On Demand in the room so that there are movies available for kids. Finally, the closest place that I was able to find coffee available was over in the main building (I know there was a coffee maker in the room but I can't stomach the powdered creamer). It was a slight hassle to have to walk to the other building for coffee in the morning. I am not sure why they wouldn't set up a coffee service in the Fairways Pines building or outside the door, near the bellstand at this building. All in all, we loved the resort-they have all the main components working together (clean facility, friendly guest services, beautiful accommodations, great food (we loved the food from the pool cafe) and lovely amenities. We will be back if ever in the Houston area again.
