Description: Cafe Homestead serves deliciously healthful food in the unique setting of a traditional craft village in our sustainable, organic farming community. We offer grass-fed beef; fresh buns, bread and rolls baked daily from whole-grain flour by Artisan Oven; cheeses produced by our community’s internationally award-winning Brazos Valley Cheese company; and other fine foods, including our all-natural, delectable ice cream. Our fruit and vegetables are always fresh, and we strive to provide locally grown produce. Begun in 1994 as a small deli, Cafe Homestead has grown to become a restaurant serving over 45,000 guests a year and is widely known for its menu of traditional Texan, Mediterranean and specialty cuisines. Before or after enjoying a relaxing meal served by friendly people from our farm community, visit our craft shops, Gift Barn and Model Homestead and take a Hayride to our scenic overlook.

If you have a chance to visit Cafe Homestead you will enjoy some very well prepared food and a staff that is completely charming. We stopped for lunch after spending the morning exploring the Waco area. The location is a bit out of town but it is well worth the time it might take to get there.

We tried a turkey avocado wrap and a pastrami melt followed by a shared piece of apple crumble. Everything was delicious and we could not stop talking about how good it was.

Our server was Rachel who was very attentive made sure that we were well cared for. A beautiful and charming lady.

All of the staff were polite and respectful.

The cafe seems to be run as part of a religious community since everyone was dressed in simple Amish like clothing.

There is a gift shop in what is labeled as a barn with hand made items of outstanding quality. Wooden crafted items, quilts, ceramic where, a children's book store and much much more. Everything seemed to be exceptionally well made and hand crafted.

Well worth a visit.

Ordered the brisket and it is was tasteless, and dry as a bone. However, the coleslaw and russet fries were very good.

Very pleasant atmosphere though.

Hello James,

Thank you for leaving a review on TripAdvisor for us. We're as eager to have folks like you tell us how we can improve as we are to have folks tell us how we've done. We have been working through some changes with our grass-fed beef provider and we are diligently trying to resolve the problem. Our goal is to have a consistently good product from a reputable source. I hope you'll allow us another opportunity to serve you brisket. Please let me know the next time you come. I would like to offer you another try at a brisket plate compliments of Cafe Homestead. Thanks again James.

Sincerely,

Derek Varejcka

Visiting our niece in Waco, she took us to the Homestead Village for both the authentic experience of an old Amish village along with lunch. Although we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table to open up, it was well worth the wait. The jalapeño spiced sweet potato soup was outstanding. We each ordered a different sandwich, and none of us were disappointed. No room for dessert, but they looked yummy. Service was a bit slow, but I would attribute that to the large crowd. Our server was very friendly and frequently refilled our drinks. This is an out of the way place, but worth the trip.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Waco. The food is so fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. The food is organic and homemade and is a great value. The sweet potato soup is to die for. We will definitely be returning!

We just wanted to say thank you from all of us here at Cafe Homestead for reviewing our work here on Trip Advisor. If I'm estimating correctly, you visited on Saturday, the 19th. Correct? If so, that was quite the day for all of us. Very busy, and very fun! We're always looking to improve the overall experience though. There were some things we felt like we learned from such a busy day, but I'd like to know also if you felt like there would be anything we could improve upon and if so, what would it be? Again, thanks for your time, your business, and the review!
