Description: Cafe Homestead serves deliciously healthful food in the unique setting of a traditional craft village in our sustainable, organic farming community. We offer grass-fed beef; fresh buns, bread and rolls baked daily from whole-grain flour by Artisan Oven; cheeses produced by our community’s internationally award-winning Brazos Valley Cheese company; and other fine foods, including our all-natural, delectable ice cream. Our fruit and vegetables are always fresh, and we strive to provide locally grown produce. Begun in 1994 as a small deli, Cafe Homestead has grown to become a restaurant serving over 45,000 guests a year and is widely known for its menu of traditional Texan, Mediterranean and specialty cuisines. Before or after enjoying a relaxing meal served by friendly people from our farm community, visit our craft shops, Gift Barn and Model Homestead and take a Hayride to our scenic overlook.

“Friendly staff and hot delicious breakfast.”

This was our first visit. Extremely clean place. Staff is so nice. No wait time. The breakfast was very good. There were no clanging of dishes. No residue on the flatware or glasses. This is a true gem. We will definitely be going back. They do not serve pork. The turkey bacon was a great substitute.

“Incredible Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

I have lived in Waco for the 9 years and still find this place the BEST in town. The food is outstanding and the location is great for visitors no matter where you are from. All foods are fresh, service is excellent and there are many things to see. Anytime I have friends come to visit, this is always on the agenda to have a meal or two. The prices are very reasonable and the shops are a great experience!!

“Over-rated & Won't be Back!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

Basically it's a soup, salad, sandwhich and burger place that use locally sourced organic ingredients. Menu selection is average, like a typical sandwich and burger shop. However, it's a long drive from center of the town. We came on a Friday for lunch, and waited more than 30 minutes for a table, because there were lots of people and the hostess was ineffective in getting folks seated. We waited another 25 minutes for our soup and cheese plate appetizer, and then another 20 minutes for our burger and salad. My burger was waterly from wet tomatos and lettece; and the bottom of the bun was soggy. My fried sweet potato fries were also soft and soggy. However, our sweet potato soup was very good. It was a lot of work and time wasted just to have some soup, salad and burgers. By the way, they replaced the steak salad with Greek salad with chicken; and it was not the same.

Hello JPDallas,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us how we're doing. I am sorry that your experience was so disappointing. As you can see from our previous reviews, your experience was definitely not typical. Please give us another try (unannounced of course) and see if, even for a sandwich and burger joint, we couldn't provide you with a better experience. In an effort to move things along for you during our lunch rush, you could give us a call ahead of time and we'll make a reservation for you. I hope you'll give us another try and even let us know again if our service matched your expectations.

“Back again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

We ate here 2 years ago, and made sure to return on our recent trip. We had lunch with kids, and all enjoyed our meal. The food is so fresh tasting and delicious. The servers are all delightful, and the price is fair for the quality you will get. While here, we stopped in to some of the shops (pottery, gristmill, store) to see the work in action and demos. What a treat to visit this restaurant and village!

“Never disappoints”

Café Homestead is a wonderful restaurant. It is situated in an old reclaimed barn. The food is wonderful. They have daily specials and a few mainstays on the menu. The service is always great. Many of the items they use to prepare food are grown on the grounds of Homestead Heritage. If you do go out to the restaurant, make time to take a tour of the facilities. They are fascinating and the grounds are gorgeous.
