We live in Temple, but if we're eating Mexican food we go to On The Border. We enjoy eating out on the Patio most days

“Poor service”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

We have always liked On the Border, but this last time, quality really slipped. It took forever to get our food; actually, it took forever to get anything. Our waitress was either overwhelmed or not paying attention—we're not sure which. Again, this could be a management issue.

My husband asked for a "to go" box. She brought us something so small that he had to jam everything together. Is there a shortage of larger "to go" boxes? And she ran off so fast he didn't even get a chance to say anything.

The food is okay, nothing spectacular, but it's fine for a quick meal. But nobody wants to stop for a "quick" meal and sit there for 45-50 minutes. We'll probably go back, but OTB needs to start paying attention to the details or they are going to be preempted by those reataurants that do.

“Decent food, outstanding service”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

My husband and I had lunch at On the Border yesterday, 01/03/14, and the food was fine. He had a chalupa, and I had the cheese and onion enchiladas. What made our visit to the Border stand out was the service.
Our waiter was Joe, who was attentive without being intrusive, and made sure everything was right for us. Great (not good, but great!) service in Central Texas is rare, but Joe provided it. I am not all that fond of Tex-Mex, but we will return to On the Border and ask to be seated in the section that Joe serves. Great service raises good food to a new level!

“Good food, terrible service.”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

I ate here for the second time last night, and quite possibly the last. The first time i ate here was in the Summer for a late night happy hour with a friend we sat on the patio and the service took forever, but the food and drinks were good so we didn't mind waiting longer. Last night i was very dissapointed, we sat in the bar area which wasn't very full (maybe 3 tables) and our server was still very slow in fixing our drinks and bringing out a chips and queso. Never got asked if i wanted another drink and we had to grab another server just to get a queso changed out. Upon recieving our main meals it took another 5 minutes to have our tickets printed and processed (the whole restaurant was still quite empty).
