This place is charming, Kate is really sweet, the staff is excellent, it truly is a nice part of the hill country experience. There obviously aren't many options in Wimbo, this is definitely one of the best choices in the area regardless of your budget. They have a great happy hour, the daily dinner special is usually pretty legit, a really nice to place chill out, sit outside or at the bar and try some local Texas brews. They have a great weekend brunch too with tasty mimosas. If you want really fast service and really cold air conditioning and food out of a plastic bag or a freezer produced in large quantities go back to the city people, this ain't it.

This is a hill country treat with just a little hiccups. My wife and I spent a few days in Wimberley and found Kate's Place by using TripAdvisor. Overall it was a good experience. The staff was very friendly and the menu was very good. My wife had the lamb and I had the pork chop. As usual we shared. The lamb was superb but the pork chop was overdone and pretty tough. It was presented well and looked very appetizing.

The downside. The dining room is a big open room with tables and chairs and is pretty charmless. When we go back ( which we will ) we will either go for lunch or if we go for dinner we will eat outside. One other little drawback. It took an excessively long time to get our food. Couldn't really figure out why because the place wasn't full.

Overall we were impressed by the class of food in this restaurant in the Hill Country and will go again.

The restaurant had been suggested by a local resident and we are so glad it was. Although a little expensive, the entree price was inclusive of side dishes, so this made it a bit more reasonable. The quality of the food was outstanding!

8 of us, who had not been to Kate's place for over 6 months for various reasons decided to try it again.
Main reason we decided to eat there was a change in menu. They have a little bar outside the dining area where your group can meet before going in. Its nice instead of sitting at the table waiting for your party to get there. Once inside they had a long table set up for us by some windows giving us a lighted area to go over and discuss the menu.
The French Onion soup is by far the best I have had in a long time and seemed to be the choice of most of us, with Kate's Salad the choice of others. Selected were Steaks, Pork Chops, Chicken and a well done Cheese Burger with sautéed mushrooms. The flavor of the meats made the meal. Food outstanding, however the service was slow.
Don't know if it was kitchen or waiter. He did check to see if all was alright a couple of times and I requested a refill on my root beer. Had to remind him later. We were not in a hurry because the conversation was stimulating, but had to get the waiter to bring the checks. Never asked about deserts or coffee. Did notice the place was full, so could have led to the problem with service. Price reasonable, food great, service had an off day. Will return.
