“Unique Small Motel in a Rural Town”
Reviewed 21 June 2010

This inn is really about 12 large, comfortable motel rooms built above the only grocery store/gas station in the small town of Cannonville, UT, near Bryce NP. If you are expecting a chain motel experience, then you will be disappointed. But if you'd like a large clean room in a very peaceful town, then you might like this inn. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean, but there were no clocks ( we turned our cell phones on to check the time) and no luggage racks on which to put our suitcases. Speaking of cell phones, there is no service here -- you have to go 4 miles to Tropic for cell phone service. The "breakfast" offered is simply coffee and toast with packets of jam in the little grocery store on the first floor. The store does stock a few other items but it is mostly for the convenience of the town -- sort of like a 7-11 little place. The town is very quiet -- the town dogs sleep in the middle of the streets, and the town kids ride up to the store on their horses! Beautiful stars when the sun goes down; beautiful colors at sunrise and sunset!
A few other things to mention: the nearest restaurants are 4 miles away in Tropic and both of them are fine -- a pizza place and Clarks, a family restaurant. This is Mormon country so the store is not open on Sunday and if you show up on Sunday or after hours, you'll have to use the red phone outside to call the owners to check you in. Also, the motel is 3 story and the staircase are outside, leading to inside corridors.

We had a fine time and would stay again, or maybe try someplace in Tropic. It is WAY more peaceful than the mass of people staying just outside Bryce!

When you're staying in the Cannonville/Tropic area, your choices are limited. This place, although clearly old, has been kept up nicely inside. The room had nice high ceilings, and was fairly modern looking. The wireless internet worked surprisingly well too, which was good since the TV channel choices were a bit lacking. The "free breakfast", however, consisted of stale toast and coffee; rather pointless.

this is a great place to stay it didnt cost us a arm and a leg, and the rooms are large, and who can complain about king size beds. the people are nice and you have a small store below. the only complaint I have is they need more trash cans in the room and a clock. but for the most part they are clean and quiet I give them a A.

We stayed at this motel overnight while on a big road trip through Utah. The Grand Staircase is in a location central to exploring the area's natural attractions. It is at the gateway to the wonderful Kodachrome Basin state park and about 20 minutes drive from Bryce Canyon. The room, although very basic, was clean, roomy and affordable. The beds were comfortable and the heating and cooling system upgraded. Although I mourned the lack of a hair dryer, refrigerator and coffee pot, I really can't complain about the overall value.

We were very happy we chose this hotel for our Bryce Canyon vacation. It is a pleasant, modernized, clean and friendly place to stay -- a great value! The rooms are very comfortable and quiet with good quality linens and towels. The exterior of the hotel is plain but once you are inside it shows the owners/operators really care and want to provide the best for their guests. The surrounding area is remote, quiet and peaceful and the view of the mountains refreshing. Also, we were surprised to discover our room had a cable TV, refrigerator, free Internet WiFi access and nearby microwave plus a simple complimentary breakfast available in the General Store from 6 AM till 11 AM. Our stay will be from April 29 until May 2, 2010 -- and if we ever return to this area we will chose this hotel, 15 miles from Bryce Canyon!

I travel to Bryce Canyon several times each year and this is the only place I will stay! It is in a beautiful area off of the beaten path. It is only a few miles from Bryce Canyon - and I love the remoteness. The rooms are very clean and the staff is always friendly. The value is excellent! As a side note, if you're running in the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon in July - this is the best place to stay, due to its location. The race ends about a block from this motel. I have probably stayed at this motel 15-20 times and have never been disappointed!

As we had changed our route a bit, we had to find a hotel close to the Cottonwood Canyon. We found it in the internet and as it was the only available hotel in the area, we were a bit skeptic but it turned out to be fine. It was cheap and very clean, room was large, bathroom was fine and it was very quiet (weekend). If you want to eat, you will have to drive but this was totally worth it. The manager was very nice and there is a store in the building so if you need anything you will probably find it there.
Complimentary breakfast was simple and ok. The breakfast lady was very nice. My husband had chosen the wrong lemonade by mistake and as he did not drink it, she did not charge it.
I would recommend this as it is a simple but good, clean and cheap hotel close enough to Bryce NP.
