“Great location, but needs some attention in units”
Reviewed 1 May 2013

If you want to ski or hike at near Powder Mountain you can't beat this location. If you are going to use it as a base to ski at other Utah resorts you might want to reconsider. You will be driving up and down a 12-16% grade in the winter. The 2 bedroom unit was fine size wise, but needed some attention. Cleaning was OK, but not ideal. Floor based heat, but it did not work for two days and outside temps were low teens at night. It took 2 days for maintenance to figure out the issue. Number of plates, cups, bowls was variable instead of standardized for this type of unit and a number of them were cracked or chipped. Front desk staff was overall good and some days excellent. The view from our room was fantastic! Great sunsets most evenings. If you are skiing it was a short walk to the other side of the tennis court area and you were on a ski run that took you to one of the lodges where you could get your lift tickets. Onsite stores for some good, but very limited selection - but we did not expect to even find some of these items. If Internet access is important you will have difficulty. Verizon Jetpack access was marginal and varied with weather and time of day. Free WiFi only in the main office building. Would have given it a little higher rating if maintenance had solved the heat problem quicker.

Room Tip: Valley view building had a great view of the valley and the mountains to the west.

We were invite to stay at Powder Ridge by our boat partners who have points with RCI. Before we arrived they sent us a email to limit our expectations. They knew we were use to the large European style ski villages found at such places as Beaver Creek and Whistler. Powder Mountain is in its own category. I would call it.."A Snow Snobs Secret Spot"..It's altitude and geographical position in the north of Utah enable it to collect a lot of snow, even in a low yield Winter. On the other hand..it's "quaint" to say the least. No wifi unless you are sitting in the community center of the buildings and they are open only 9-9. (If you are desperate..you can sit in a alcove just outside main doors and get a signal..shhhh) Also the condo style units, although fully equipped and clean, are old and are need for a update. So if you are a family that likes good snow and needs to "disconnect" from the digital world (not a bad idea)..This is your spot!

I was a little worried when we booked because of some negative reviews I read but was pleasantly surprised. We were in a two bedroom and two bath unit in the Aspin Ridge building as four adults and a toddler. There was plenty of room without being on top of eachother. The view was stunning when you could see through the fog. The unit itself was clean enough as far as dusted and floors cleaned but they do have very hard water stains which make the dishes and bathtubs appear dirtier than they really were. The beds were comfortable in both rooms. The units are older and the bathrooms are quite small but that did make it warmer when you step out of the shower. The reviews about the steep and snow covered drive are not over stated, be ready for it. The best thing about the resort is the location and we went in winter so we skied hard all week. There is not much else to do if you don't want to be on the mountain. Shop in Salt Lake or on the way to the resort since you have to drive appx 20 (straight downhill) minutes to closest store. The resort does have a game room, tennis court and heated indoor pool for down time. I can't say anything but good things about the staff, they were exceptional. They have a ski rental shop in the main office who also had very friendly staff (Justin when we were there) who went out of his way for us but It is cheaper to rent skis at the Powder Mountain lodge you pass on the was to the resort.

Room Tip: Request middle or top floor.

Staff went out of their way to be helpful. Ski in, ski out was great, it is so remote that you really are "off the grid". New management since the "Not for summer" review shows they have turned things around. Powder Mountain is not a glitzy, expensive mountain teeming with nighlife, but it has 10 square miles of skiing, some of the best Utah powder and virtually no lift lines - incredible skiing if that's what you want. If you want to fight the crowds at the disco, go somewhere else.

This resort is indeed at the top of the mountain. If you are going when it's snowing -heed the warnings, have good tires/chains etc... Very scary, steep driving- the ski resort has a shuttle service to the units & there is ski in/out so you don't HAVE to drive everyday-big relief for us. The units are fine- not great, not bad. Ours was very clean. Most of the people at the resort were terrific- they even have a ski rental in the lobby which helps. They had a little market & treats for kids. Also a great selection of movies to rent. They did not have ESPN in the rooms which irritated my husband -they DID put the games on in the lobby for him-The HUGE BUMMER is the lack of internet, even in the lobby it's sketchy. For those who have to work while on vacation it is hard but we could send email through our smart phones etc. The area around this resort was so beautiful, like a postcard!! Great snow, my kids had fun. For me, it was stressful. The skiing is over 2 mountains & you have to take a shuttle to get back & forth, so my kids were all over the place, I never knew if they were going to get on the right shuttle! There is NO town or restaurants within walking distance so you have to navigate the mountain to do anything so we stayed in our unit every night- that got a bit tedious for me personally but others may like that. This is a perfect place for people who love great powder skiing, know how to drive in the snow, have older kids and those who truly want to get away from it all-

Room Tip: All rooms have great views, you feel like you're in a tree house. Go with upstairs but no elevat...

We had a family reunion up at Powder Ridge. We had a good time because we were all together but the accommodations and service were terrible. My main complaint is that it was not clean. Our family had five units. My mom found mouse droppings throughout her unit and when she called about it- the maintenance man came and simply said in a rude way to my mom "You have a vacuum in your unit dont you?" He basically told her that it was her responsibility to clean up the mouse droppings and she asked what they were doing about it and he said he could bring her a mouse trap. She laid the trap and caught a mouse and then was responsible for the disposal of it. She had to pester them to bring more traps. Also the common area outside her door had the droppings and she was expected to vacuum that too. It was unbelievable.
When my sister pulled out the pull out bed in her unit it was covered in crumbs. Clearly it had not been cleaned. Also you are expected at the end of the stay to strip the beds, remove all trash and they threaten charges for extra cleaning.
Some staff in the lodge was friendly so it wouldn't be fair to say they were all bad.
The kids enjoyed the pool (though it was super super chlorinated) and the lodges game room, which was good because once you are up on the mountain you dont want to have to drive down to find things to do.
I know that this is mainly a ski resort so I didnt expect all that much but really is it too much to stay in a unit without mice?!!!

This was our first time at Powder Mtn, and in the height of summer season. The location is incredible, right on top of the mountain. The views were incredible, the sunsets were spectacular! The drive up to the top is intense, the sign says 16% grade, it's accurate... your car will hate it.

You just need to know, you pay a price for staying on the top of a mountain, and that price is bored kids! I know, it's summer, go out and play... you can only go to the pool a couple of times, and only play so much table tennis. There are no resort services open in the summer, no lift served hiking, biking, not even a restaurant. So bring lots of books, to glance away at the view. Hike down to Hidden Lake, but realize it's more of a livestock watering hole than a pristine alpine lake.

The units are worn... they try to keep them up, but you can only polish a worn out pair of shoes for so long. Positives: large spaces, plenty of room, well equipped kitchen, and the trundle bed was a perfect addition. Negatives: Neither tub would plug, the most dated bathrooms I've had the pleasure to visit in a resort, and no internet except in the main lodge. I know, you don't come here to connect to cyber space, but you can't even watch your netflix after the that amazing sunset... maybe that's what you're looking for.

Room Tip: Upstairs has vaulted ceilings, and huge lofts.
