Rooms are small and bath room is so small you can't turn around in front of the sink. There is NO breakfast so figure that into the price. The rooms were clean and it is run by an older couple who were very nice, although not didn't know what to do with a wi-fi problem. The old TV hangs on the wall about 4 feet off the floor so be careful and don't run into it. The heat is a radiator and we couldn't turn of completely off so we ended up trying the window A/C mounted in the wall and that was too loud. We ended up leaving the window open to cool the room even thought it was 40 degrees in the am.

We were on our way to Boulder and got to the top of the Great Escalante Staircase but were too tired to go down the other side. Did not expect it to be cheap in this tourist area but was reasonable. The room had a fridge but no microwave. The owners were very helpful and even boiled me some water for tea.

Booked online, sight unseen. Basic but clean room with an odd, tiny bathroom. The desk person (owner?) was unwelcoming. Went back to the office to get a pillow, but she had gone home a short time after we checked in around 5:00 p.m, with a sign posted in the window that she will return the naxt day at 4:00 pm. Enjoyed large picture window next the bed which was missing the latch. Better still were the gauze curtains over this window that offered no privacy at all and allowed view of ice cream stand across the street that featured bright lights all night. Skip it if you can.

Room Tip: Try the place across the street

We stayed at the Padre Motel during September of 2011. Some of the other motels were already sold out and we started checking some 3 months prior! So, if going during the cooler fall months be sure to book early.

By default we stayed at the Padre Motel. It was very dated, with small rooms, located on East Main street, still close to restaurants. But what was odd was that our two rooms were both filled with little gnats or fruit flies, which was irritating. It may have been a one time deal but it seemed odd that two of the rooms we occupied both had them.

The rooms were clean, but needs some updating before we'd stay there again.

Clean, quiet small motel. Nothing fancy, but, nice and large rooms with all the amenities you need - and a very comfortable bed! The owners are very friendly people. Ideal for the Grand Staircase Escalante on Highway 12 scenic byway. I rate it "very good" not in comparison to expensive places in cities, but in comparison to other places in these remote areas.

This may have been a cute off the beaten track place in 1970..they do have color TV, flush toilets, and at door parking.

In the peak season (Sept) the "mini-suites"..and I mean "MINI" run $110/after tax $125. This is an owner occupied property (the Lymans). The Mrs. Lyman skirts "surly"..think of the 3rd grade nun who despised your very existence. Despite their websites claim about the owners life long residence in the area..I was a bit disturbed when she recommended to a couple of naifs some slot canyons to go hike in, when the BLM office was warning of impassable roads, flash floods, in the immediate area as a result of unusually heavy rainstorms.

The word "basic" is poorly used here. Rip-off would be closer to the intended meaning.

Rooms are clean.Beds are nice.Decent sized bathroom.Internet (at least the ethernet hard wire connection) is good. Otherwise..the rooms are extremel, .EXTREMELY small ..the suites are less than 400sq feet( for >100USD. Every toilet flush, door slam, TV show, conversation is enjoyed by all. And I really mean it!!! It is 20feet off the road so expect to listen to the summer Harley-Davidson crowd roar through town. Paper thin walls--crying babies in the next room.

No coffee maker,no breakfast, very limited A/C (it hits 100F here in mid summer).

There are much better properties in Escalante..however most are closed Nov-April..since they make enough off of the Euro-tourists in the early autumn, to close shop and take their earnings elsewhere I imagine.

Try Panguitch or some place else...the Circle D in Escalante is decent enough-however usually booked solid in Sept.

Room Tip: Don't stay here...best advice..unless truly desperate. The long list of regulations on thier web...

This is my second time staying at the Padre. There are lots of choices in the town but I like the Padre. It is a small motel with basic amenities. We've always been treated well by the owners there which is one reason we've returned. We've always stayed in the very small but comfortable mini suite. The 2 bedrooms are roomy but the "living room" is cozy. Nice to have a good sized fridge in the room.
