For a chain hotel this place is great. It's certainly not a resort, but rather a means to ski with convenience. If you are in SLC for the main reason of skiing rather than partying or having a slopeside experience, the location is great. If on the other hand you are looking for that ski-town feel this will not do the trick as it is across the street from the interstate and technically not in the mountains. Location aside, in terms of the property, the rooms are very nice and have a crisp, clean feel.

Regarding the breakfast, they boast so-called hot skillet sandwiches, but really they are just pre-formed eggs with mass produced bacon circles and for a lack of a better term they are disgusting. The rest of the breakfast spread more than makes up for the skillet snausages with an ample helping of delicious fruits, teas and typical hot and cold cereals.

Overall, this is a great hotel if you are simply skiing and nothing more. Also would work well for the business traveler who has meetings in the Cottonwood area. However, I would not recommend it for big families (better off renting a condo or hotel closer to the mountain) and not recommended for skiers looking for the total mountain experience (head to Park City).

This is a new hotel, and it's location is wonderful if you're a skier and want to enjoy the thrills of Little Cottonwood Canyon (Alta & Snowbird) or Big Cottonwood Canyon (Brighton & Solitude). The rooms are easily the best designed ones I've stayed in - among the various mid-priced chain hotels. There is a big comfortable 'sectional couch', nicely separated from the bed by a panel. It gives the impression of a comfortable suite. Its very inviting. As others have noted, be sure to get a room on the parking lot side, which keeps the noise down.

But it's clear that this hotel still has some 'growing up' to do. The staff did not to be especially well trained, compared to other comparable hotels. Check-in was very clumsy and cleaning staff were not at all thorough. At the well-designed breakfast room, staff was oddly slow and surly. Hopefully, with a bit more attention from management, this will be a great location for skiiers.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room facing the parking lot!

Consistently traveled to this area of SLC for a dozen years, I was thrilled when HP opened its doors. It is a great location and convenient to the offices nearby, downtown (20 mins), and the slopes (25 mins). The area has grown nicely and there are plenty of food places ranging from fast food to gourmet (Francs is great along with Tuscany). Powder House is literally right next door so you can get all your ski gear and passes with minimal effort. Positive location for sure if you need to be in or near the Cottonwood area.

Hotel itself is new. Rooms are clean, well appointed, and all works fine. The bath is roomy and live the shower. Finally a hotel that realizes that few people need a tub and they designed a nice walk in shower. Plenty of counter area for your personal care products and generous lighting. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. As for the road noise that others have noted, I either heard nothing or it was not noticeable. My room overlooked the road, and yes I saw the highway but also the mountains in the distance. Noise was never an issue. HVAC unit in the room was fine. Once again, excessive noise was not noted. Positive room experience.

Front desk and other HP personnel were very nice and accommodative. Breakfast was perfect for me (oatmeal, fruit, yogurt) but other choices were available from eggs to French toast. Plenty of juices and coffee. Food was fine. Positive marks.

I think this is a very nice property and have now selected it as my default hotel when in town (every 6 weeks for a few nights). No more staying downtown and driving back to area. Relax and enjoy.

The room I'd stayed in was so noisy that it kept me up for most of the night. The AC/heater unit was very loud. Also I could hear the freeway traffic from the room. Overall it was a very unpleasant stay. The staff was not the friendliest. The front desk reception was kind do annoyed when I brought up the subject of my room being too noisy.
