We picked Hyatt Place for its great location in Salt Lake City. Right off I-215 and easy to get anywhere in the valley within 20 to 30 minutes. For skiers that don't want to stay at a resort in the canyons this would be ideal. Additional pluses, the hotel is new and modern. Great design, large comfortable rooms and really nice bathrooms. We loved the free breakfast in the morning but only took advantage of this once, it ends early.

Here's some negatives. We were on the 4th floor facing the hotel parking lot, or looking south and it's noisy. You can hear conversations in the parking lot and hallway. It's not great when you can hear the blinds being opened in the next room. The blinds...cool look and idea but if you are sensitive to sleeping in the dark the gap at top allows the hotel flood lights in all night. We found the AC unit to be loud as well.

We were uneasy about the safety of our car in the parking lot. Parking space directly in front of the hotel is limited and if you get in late you have to park at a higher level. The broken window glass you see throughout the parking lot tells you they have a car prowler issue and lack of security to handle it, I did not like that and based in that alone when we return to Salt Lake City we will pick a different location.

Room Tip: Although the view is nice facing north and west, if you want a quiet space pick an east or south fac...

WOW! Friendly service, a wonderful look & feel, comfortable bed, great-looking room, clean, quiet and all-around excellent.

Great views. Great lobby. Great baked stuff. Easy location.

Maybe it was an off-weekend for prices, but I was shocked that this $80/night room was as great as it was. Literally, this is certainly the best value of anyplace I've stayed in the US in 10+ years.

Room Tip: Facing the golf course was nice.

Very clean, nicely appointed room with beautiful mountain view. Friendly staff with good breakfast bar. Surprised by wide range of DirecTV. Only drawback was the road noise from 6200 S. Would recommend this property. Ideal location for skiers visiting resorts.

We stayed here to ski the local resorts (Alta, Snowbird, and Solitude). Usually we rent a condo but they were hard to come by so we reserved two interconnecting rooms for our family of four. It worked out great - from the proximity to the resorts, to the quality of the rooms, to the amenities of the lobby (nice fireplace to gather around). Staff were helpful. Breakfast offered variety. We had a rental car, but one could also access the slopes using the hotel shuttle service to the nearby park and ride bus lots. The adjacent shopping centers offered a range of eateries, but we also got in the car and drove to the nearby Whole Foods for dinner and groceries one evening as well as accessing other restaurants. Be sure to ask about discounted ski tickets.

For a chain hotel this place is great. It's certainly not a resort, but rather a means to ski with convenience. If you are in SLC for the main reason of skiing rather than partying or having a slopeside experience, the location is great. If on the other hand you are looking for that ski-town feel this will not do the trick as it is across the street from the interstate and technically not in the mountains. Location aside, in terms of the property, the rooms are very nice and have a crisp, clean feel.

Regarding the breakfast, they boast so-called hot skillet sandwiches, but really they are just pre-formed eggs with mass produced bacon circles and for a lack of a better term they are disgusting. The rest of the breakfast spread more than makes up for the skillet snausages with an ample helping of delicious fruits, teas and typical hot and cold cereals.

Overall, this is a great hotel if you are simply skiing and nothing more. Also would work well for the business traveler who has meetings in the Cottonwood area. However, I would not recommend it for big families (better off renting a condo or hotel closer to the mountain) and not recommended for skiers looking for the total mountain experience (head to Park City).

This is a new hotel, and it's location is wonderful if you're a skier and want to enjoy the thrills of Little Cottonwood Canyon (Alta & Snowbird) or Big Cottonwood Canyon (Brighton & Solitude). The rooms are easily the best designed ones I've stayed in - among the various mid-priced chain hotels. There is a big comfortable 'sectional couch', nicely separated from the bed by a panel. It gives the impression of a comfortable suite. Its very inviting. As others have noted, be sure to get a room on the parking lot side, which keeps the noise down.

But it's clear that this hotel still has some 'growing up' to do. The staff did not to be especially well trained, compared to other comparable hotels. Check-in was very clumsy and cleaning staff were not at all thorough. At the well-designed breakfast room, staff was oddly slow and surly. Hopefully, with a bit more attention from management, this will be a great location for skiiers.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room facing the parking lot!
