“Felt Like a Movie Star”
Reviewed 18 July 2009

Put on my vintage glasses and fit right in with the atmosphere. Centrally located and a discount price with AAA. Good, quiet room--absolutely undisturbed and I am a very light sleeper. The evening movie was a special treat--with a movie made in Kanab running--even had popcorn and a charming movie man running the show.

The morning breakfast is not very healthy, but there are not many choices for good food in this town. Seems like all the food in this town was out of a box or can, so bring your own...expensive too.

We booked because of the quirkiness of its history. It's also dog friendly and traveling with out aging pup came first. Overall, the exterior is nice for a 1950's era motel. The rooms are stuck in the '50s with bedspreads and "hammocking" mattresses that must be from that era too. Nasty old carpet in the rooms added to the "feeling". They offer a dog walking area that was so full of droppings that there was no room for a dog to even walk. We always pick up our dog's droppings no matter where we are, but apparently we were alone in that action because even the hotel didn't pick it up - for what must have been years!! And that is not an exaggeration. We walked our dog around the block instead and enjoyed the nice neighborhood area.

The restaurant was great! Stay elsewhere and go to the restaurant. If you want a glass of wine in Kanab - this is one of the very few places you can get it, but you must be having dinner to get it. After all - it's Utah.

After a mix-up in our stay at the Quail Park Lodge we ended up at the Perry Lodge. They accomodated us for two nights and were very nice about our last minute choice. We had a room in the main building which was HUGE. The cottages named after old time movie and western stars were quaint but small. The pool looked very nice and clean and the barn showing free old Western movies filmed in Kanab was charming and fun. The $5.99 breakfast buffet was fantastic with many choices and excellent quality in the sunny dining room, featuring yummy types of pork products--two types of sausage AND good quality bacon and a dreamy selection of carbs---hash browns, little light pancakes, biscuits, and bread pudding!

Sure the rooms could use updating (I was re-decorating them in my mind :)) and the towels could be larger and thicker but for $75 a night this was a GREAT value, clean and comfortable, and the staff was very nice. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here two nights on our travel from Zion National Park to Bryce Canyon and on to the Grand Canyon. It was a nice motel/lodge but the room was very small. There was barely enough room to walk around the double bed. Not much room to sit luggage out. The room was clean and the staff was very nice. We stayed in the "James Garner" room. The bed was so-so. They have a restaurant in the main building (closed for lunch & dinner on Sunday and Monday). We are breakfast both mornings here. They had a small buffet that was sufficient. I think it was about $13 for the both of us, drink included.

Good food, friendly staff. clean rooms - what more could you want. Minor gripes include dining room closed on Sunday evening & restrictive Utah liquor laws but I cannot blame the hotel for these !.

We enjoyed our stay at Parry Lodge a week ago. The staff was extremely friendly and personable. We felt like "we had come home". The food we ate there was delicious and our rooms were 50's style, but very clean and adequate. The barn with the movies was a treat. We watched three movies while we were there and ate lots of popcorn! This is a place we would like to revisit in the future.
