“First class hotel at a bargain price”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

I stayed at this hotel on business in the 1960s. Wow, it sure has changed. It still retains its historic character, but the rooms have been upgraded and are super nice. We were checked in by a very pleasant and efficient desk clerk (Yashelle) who gave us a lot of information plus a voucher for a free appetizer at the Irish restaurant in the hotel. We had a suite with two double beds for the price of $76.50 plus tax (senior rate). There was a bedroom and a sitting room, both with nice TVs. The beds were very comfortable, with pillow-top mattresses. There was a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker in the room. The sitting area had a desk and chair plus a couch, coffee table, and two end tables, all very nice furniture. The bathroom was roomy with a shower-tub combination with a Jacuzzi-type tub. The breakfast was very good with scrambled eggs, potatoes and bacon in addition to the usual cold items. We were planning to move to a hotel in Salt Lake for the next night, but we were so impressed by the room and the price that we extended for an additional night, trading off the driving time into Salt Lake for the amenities and price of the Ben Lomond. Highly recommend it!

Dear Jspace63,

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write such a nice review. It is so fun that you stayed at the hotel in the 1960s. That was before the 1980s renovation that took the hotel from 350 rooms to 124 rooms, so I'm sure that your room felt much bigger.

We are glad that you enjoyed your suite and breakfast enough to extend your stay with us another day. We hope to see you again soon!

Have a great day!

This hotel has old-fashioned charm and friendly service at an excellent price. Our room was cozy, clean, and comfortable. The parking garage was handy and free. Good restaurants and entertainment are a short walk from the hotel.

Dear Mc4252013,

We are so glad that you enjoyed our hotel's old-fashioned charm and friendly service. It sounds like you got to enjoy some of the fun things downtown Ogden has to offer. If you have time this winter you should visit us again and explore Christmas Village (the holiday display across the street from the hotel) and Snowbasin and Power Mountain Ski Resorts.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to share your review. We hope that you stay with us again soon.

Have a wonderful day!

Originally built in 1889 with the towers added in 1921. Very charming lobby from the 1890's period. Lots of historic pictures of the hotel and Ogden.
Friendly and accommodating staff. When we discovered a problem with our first room, we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite at no additional charge. The restaurant, while small, offered a nice view of the Wasatch mountains and the food that we had was very good.
If you are into historic buildings, this is the place to stay.

The rooms are old but OK given the age of the hotel. It may be historic but is not worth the stay. The picture on tripadvisor is VERY flattering. If you stay only one night you may be OK but, any longer and you will not be happy. The A/C is very inadequate in hot weather...we have been running the ceiling fans nonstop all week. The staffing seems to be very light as it takes a long time for rooms to be cleaned and when we had no toilet paper (it had been cleaned) it took 45min to get more. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hilton down the street.

Stayed one night passing thru Ogden. This is an elegant old hotel with great architecture. Nice front desk person. Rooms are clean and large. The breakfast is also good. This hotel was the best value one a recent three week road trip. Great property at a fair price.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are large.

We called for a room while in Ogden after our other hotel reservation fell through and we were able to get a king suite. They accept pets with a $50 fee. The room was really large with a mix of new and old furniture. The beds were comfortable but the only downside was the spotlight shining at the building was really bright. The blackout curtains blocked 90% of it. The updated historic building had a great feel to it. The breakfast was good and had real scrambled eggs along with other fresh options. We also had take-out from MacCool's in the lobby and it was delicious and convenient!

Dear Armymover,

Thank you for staying with us, we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and breakfast. We are also happy that you enjoyed the convenience of MacCool's for dinner. Thank you for letting us know about the spotlight so we can confirm that it is functioning properly, it is supposed to highlight the hotel until 10pm and then turn off. We hope that you stay with us again soon.

Absolutely huge rooms (two separate bedrooms, if you're booking that type of accommodation) with microwave and fridge. This was a quick one-night stop for us on the way to Yellowstone, but we did enjoy it. I just wish the beds had been a bit bigger. Free breakfast was good. Location was good. Vending machines needs better monitoring (there was no bottled water available on any of the three floors I visited.) This is an historic building in Ogden and boasts an interesting history. Lots of good restaurants within a short walk.

Thank you for staying with us on your way to Yellowstone and thank you for the lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed the huge rooms and complementary breakfast. If you would like a bigger bed the next time you stay with us make sure to reserve a king suite.
