“Horrible hospitality”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

I have never been in Utah before was here for a destination wedding. The Grand Summit is gorgeous but I have never come across the most uncaring hotel staff. I travel a lot and was so appalled by the staff. I loved Utah and will be back but will stay somewhere else and would never recommend Grand Summit to anyone.

Stayed here because of a destination wedding that was in the area. While the experience was pleasant, there was a lot to be desired. The room service was very slow and we had to call two or three times to get our room cleaned. Each time we called, we were told that someone would be coming soon. After the third call (and a matter of hours), we finally got room service. Unfortunately, we probably got one of the worst units (for location) to stay in. We had a one bedroom suite (Rooms 456 and 458). It was not only right off the elevator bank (which meant significant hallway noise), but also directly above the outside dining for the Red Tail Grill (which is on the second floor of the hotel). As you can imagine, there was no privacy on our balcony and the noise from the patrons eating outside was directly below our bedroom. To top it off, there was some type of mountain bike event at the hotel and the finish line was right outside our room. The blaring of an announcer on loud speakers and loud music was very difficult to put up with. No real complaints about the room furnishings except for some stains on one of the couches. All in all, it was okay. Just didn't feel even close to a 4 star experience.

Room Tip: Can not say which room to choose, but can say that you should avoid Rooms 456 and 458 due to restaur...

We just returned from a week in Park City where our family of 4 stayed at the Canyons Grand Summit. We had a 1 bedroom condo on the 5th floor that gave us great panoramic views to the east. The king bedroom was extremely comfortable -- with room darkening curtains and a super comfortable bed. Our daughter (13) and son (15) slept in the daybeds which were about the size of a twin bed (our son had the option of the pullout couch but chose a day bed instead) The both slept like rocks so I'm certain they were quite comfortable as well.

The staff and the Grand Summit was friendly and super helpful -- we got to know the valets well and they provided any info we needed about virtually anything (directions, recommendations for fly fishing guides, activities, etc.). We had one rainy day while there so we hit the fitness room which was well-equipped with new treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, as well as free weights and cable-based weight machines.

The Canyons has enough activities right outside their door to keep you busy for days -- the Red Pine Gondola ($18 pp for a day's pass) takes you up to endless trails and two other lifts, a restaurant nestled at the top, and mountain bike trails (although the trails we saw were all for experienced and 'extreme' bikers -- with jumps and drops, etc. Fun to watch from the lift).

Several restaurants are available right at Canyons, too, as well as a smaller Market.

Canyons is only about 35 minutes from SLC airport so unlike a lot of places where you have to drive for hours once you've landed, we were quickly settled into our condo after arrival. There are endless activities within an easy 30-60 minute drive of Canyons which are WELL worth it -- Timpanagos Cave, Sundance Resort (another lift opportunity with stunning views and hiking trails at the top), Tibble Creek Reservoir, Mirror Lake, fly fishing on the Provo River, golf and horseback riding in every direction. We left after a week with a list of the things we didn't get to do that we will do next time! We rarely like to go any place twice but we're planning on returning next year. Overall, fantastic.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Summit this past week. Our daughter was married in Park City and the entire room block stayed at The Grand Summit. Everyone loved their accommodations and the staff could have not been more helpful. Our rehearsal dinner was at the Lookout restaurant and it was excellent . I would recommend the Grand Summit and hope to return again soon.

From start to finish- never have I felt less cared for a hotel- or that the hotel didn't care about itself. Arrived a few days early with family for a conference. Room not ready, yet after eating meal, waiting in lobby by front desk, no one bothered to tell us when room was finally ready- despite assurances that we would be called. Room we were give overlooked pool- noisy- and despite complaints at 1045 of noise, (and assurances that security would handle) loud guests continued until well past 11 pm.
Housekeeping - 3 towels/2 washcloths for 4 guests in a room- again, asked for more- never received. Only 1 of 3 beds made, room not vacuumed- though clearly we had dropped some crumbs on floor. Again, were assured housekeeping would take care- no one came. Shower made screeching noise. Restaurant staff also checked out. Is it too much to ask for a spoon, sugar and cream to be brought with coffee? Or butter or jam with toast? Completely inattentive.

Room Tip: Avoid 2nd floor and anything overlooking the pool

I have been going to the Grand Summit since it first opened. It is the perfect location for a great ski vacation. 30 minutes from SLC airport. Just walk out of the Grand Summit door and step onto the lift. The mountain has so many choices for skiers that there is something for everyone. If you want to go into town and don't have a car, the bus comes right to the door of the hotel. We always eat wonderfully when we go to Park City. The hotel is well-equipped for a family skiing trip. With a one bedroom unit, we have slept our five member family and could have slept six. The unit is large and very comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped and you can easily cook all your meals if you want. We love our fireplace. The pool is big and usually not overly full. There are three hot tubs. We always make a visit to the spa, too. We stay on the interior side looking at the pool and looking up the mountain. A trip during spring break means you can watch pond skimming (in costume) and can enjoy lots of great music. You can't go wrong with any of the restaurants, however you may need to make a reservation.

Room Tip: The second floor leads straight to the lifts. If you get a room towards the end, you don't hear...

Our frustration started off when we arrived at the hotel. We arrived a few minutes before 4:00 p.m. which is check-in time. We were told our room wasn't ready and they had four people working on it. We gave them our cell number and they told us they would text us when the room was ready (they said about a half an hour). An hour came and went, and no text! I expect when I pay almost $400 for a room, it will be ready. 4:00 pm is a late check-in time as it is.

When we finally made it to our room, I was very disappointed to see that our suite only had two kings and a pull out bed. The two times before when we have stayed, we had one nice-sized bed in one bedroom, and two beds in the second, plus the pullout, which is plenty of room for all of us. Unfortunately, this time around, we didn't have enough room, so we had to sleep three per king. Great! The cups in the cabinet were dirty, so my mom and 10-year-old went through and washed all the mugs so we'd have something clean to drink out of.

The pool and hot tubs are always lovely though. I give those 5 stars. :) When we got back to the room from swimming at about 11:00 pm, we went to pull out the sofa and found there were no linens and there were no linens in the closets, so we had to call the front desk and waited approximately a half an hour for them to be delivered. We might just try staying somewhere else next time. :(
