Marvin in Engineering did a great job addressing an issue in our condo. It was fixed right the first time along with a smile. Appreciate the quick response, professionalism, and explanation of what was wrong, and what needed to be done to address it.

Thanks!

My husband and I spent a week at Westgate Park City in Oct. '13. We did an exchange on the point system-- decided to try Park City as our 'base location' with full intent of traveling to Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park during the week also, to stay there one night then go back to our room in Park City. That plan was rudely interrupted by the USA Gov't shutdown however. We did get sympathy (and a lot of help and great conversation!) from Nancy and Brandi at the concierge/VIP stations. They both were extremely kind and friendly. We didn't even mind the timeshare talk one morning. We told them up front that we were not interested in purchasing, we already own a TS in Fla. But we did learn a lot about Westgate and enjoyed the staff members. We loved the bed and kitchenette, the bathroom/shower was nice also. We had called wks before our trip to discuss which view we'd like to see outside our window (I had read some reviews here!) Since it was autumn, we requested a view of the mountains and it was SO gorgeous-- no regrets! Neither of us ski and we didn't use the Spa but with assistance from Nancy, we had no trouble filling our days with scenic drives around the area and took LOTs of photos (my hobby!) I would recommend a trip on the Heber Valley Railroad, Heber City (Utah). SO much fun and very pretty scenery as you travel through the valley. You may even experience a couple of surprises while on board --I wont give it away! Kids will absolutely love this train but adults will not be bored-- we were not! We had a relaxing week and a great time-- in spite of our government shutdown!

We normally stay in Park City but wanted to give the Canyons a try so we booked a single bedroom suite for 2 nights starting last Friday on 2/21. The price was better than some of the nice spots in PC but we figured out why pretty quickly.

We arrived around 6:30 pm to check in. The front desk guy, in a very impressive lobby btw, was very nice and professional and after check-in, directed us towards the "VIP Desk" for details of our stay, a map to our room, how to use the resort,, etc. VIP guy was very nice too but its really the Timeshare roll out. We politely declined but he gave us fresh cookies as a takeaway and we went back outside to arrange getting our luggage to our room and skis and the car valet'd. We went to the guest services concierge for this and when we told him the room number he said. "For that room, we feel its better for guests to drive over, self-park and take your bags to your room yourself because its such a far walk from here"...What??? I just paid $500/night for a room and we have to park and schlep our luggage and skis from a parking garage ourselves? I promised to pay the guy, which he grinned at but was very helpful about telling us how to get to the parking garage though. Ok, moving on...

Once we got to the room (we just left the skis in the car because we didn't feel like lugging our gear to the Skier Services part of the building) the room was small but very nicely appointed with a small kitchenette. Everything looked great. We unpacked and immediately went to the on-property market (this was nice to have nearby) just to pick up a few items and some wine. When we returned to the room, things started to go downhill...pun intended

As it turns out, the walls are paper thin and with no sound insulation between. The family in the room next to us had returned while we were gone and we found that we could hear every single word of their conversations. It was so bad its almost as if there were amplifiers in the walls. I'm not exagerating, it was horrible...especially when the kids started their meltdowns and the parents got upset. Its was as though were all in the same room together. It was really that bad. The next morning, the dad was having trouble with some sort of service that he was trying to resolve over the phone and were heard him recite his credit card #, social security #, name and address. Seriously, not only was its a servere disturbance to hear everything from the other room but if we were not so nice, it would be a serious security issue for him. As if that wasnt bad enough, about 30 minutes after settling to watch a movie, we started hearing all these conversations and commotion outside our room in the hallway. We looked out of our room which was 2 doors away from the elevator...and the entrance to the bar/grill was right around the corner from that so we then became privy to conversations any bar patrons were having when leaving and waiting for the elevator. Adding insult to injury, the door across the hallway wasn't a door to another room even though it looked like one...it was the door was the dishwashing station and staff entrance for the restaurant! So periodically we had the sound of banging pots and pans and staff interactions to accompany all the other noises.

Ok, since we had unpacked and gotten settled and figured that the whole place had the same thin walls and similar noise problems so instead of asking for another room and going through all that, we looked for some food instead.

The Westgate has 2 restaurants, a bar/grill and a steak house...We opted for the Steakhouse that just got awarded BEST IN UTAH. Seeing as we were tired from a long day of skiing over at Solitude, having just showered and ordering food in our robes, we were reminded that the resort doesn't have any room service which we knew so assumed we could just walk in and pick it up. We placed our order over the phone, 10 minutes go by and the restaurant calls our room to tell us they no longer offer the beet salad we ordered off the website menu. No harm, we changed our order and after another 10 minutes get another call, this time saying they also no longer make the Gnocchi listed on the menu either. It was at this point we were informed that the menu online is out of date...OK, we get the rundown of what they do have and change our order again. So we go get our food...great wasabi potatoes and a hip mac'n'cheese...the Brussels sprouts were severely undercooked however but we almost didn't care because they we surrounded by tasty fried pancetta chunks. (take note, the closest Ice Machine to our room was literally a 10 minute walk away but there is an ice tray in the fridge to make your own. The bar cannot provide ice in bulk BTW, tried that one) When done, we just used the TV to drown out all the sounds around us and go to sleep excited to ski the Canyons the next day.

We have a great time skiing...The Apre' Ski was fantastic at the outdoor main plaza (tasty beers, live music, s'mores by the fire pit) During the day we saw The Farm restaurant just off the Plaza and decided on having dinner there instead of heading into the restaurant madness of Park City...BEST DECISION EVER...that meal, the wine, the experience all amazing from the time we walked in. Make it a 'must' on your list.

We got back to the room around 11 and went to bed. Apparently the room next door had turned over to another group...2 seemingly young couples who had been drinking all night came back to their room at 12:45 were extremely loud and started playing drinking games. So now we were up and just mad at this point, not at the people next door so much but at the resort. The sound barriers between rooms is simply non-exisitent and they have to know this. I cant stress that point enough. So, as I'm getting dressed to go and ask the neighbors to tone it down a bit, Jen (my better half) reminded me that we were 'there' once and not to go too hard on them but by the time she calmed me down, either security or another neighbor had apparently beaten me to the punch and they had turned their level down a few notches Still, the level of their normal conversations was like they were sitting in the room with us. We turned on the TV to try and bring some peace to our space but our sleep suffered for the 2nd night in a row.

I'm writing such an involved review because we just feel cheated. If you get assigned the rooms either 1707B or 1709B when you check in, immediately ask for another room or to reduce the price down to $100/night. Those rooms should either not be rooms at all or come with a disclosure. What took this review from 1 star to 3 stars was the location being awesome and the staff was consistently very friendly...which I know how hard that can be to foster with a large resort-town staff since I grew up and have lived in a few of the US's largest ski towns, Park City even 10 years ago. I think the management is aware of the facility's shortcomings so since they cant control that, they do a great job with their staff (the guest services concierge who wasn't helpful with our bags/skis was a one-off we think). Other pluses? The indoor/outdoor pool and adult relaxation pool area, the proximity to the lifts, the on-site liquor store and market, and again, the amazingly friendly and engaging staff. The skier services sounded like a nice feature but only skiing for 1 day there and being told we had to do all the legwork and setup ourselves it didnt make any sense to use it.

Having seen more of the slopes and area, we're sold on going back to The Canyons...not so sure that will include Westgate again but at least we know what to expect for $500/night.

We had a fabulous time at the Westgate Park City. Our room was wonderful and the services were top notch. We took the shuttle almost every night. At the beginning we didn't know how that worked but then Adriana from Guest Services explained everything about it, great customer service. FYI: If you are a big group try to plan reservations and shuttle in advanced! The ski valet made things so easy and you could walk about 2 minutes to the lift. TIP: always take your map with you, at least for the first couple of days.

Westgate is a great place. All rooms are walking distance from the main gondola and lifts for the Canyons. The pools and hot tubs are great. Drafts Pub has great wings. Definitely use the Ski Storage and boot locker room. It is free. They take your skis right to the gondola and bring them back. They also dry your boots each night. The only downside in that the timeshare sales is still active. The "free" shuttle to Park City is only free to timeshare owners. It is $20 per day unless you take the timeshare tour. It was the hardest timeshare salespitch that I have ever been to. They would not take no for an answer. We had to get up and walk out.
