We were looking for just an overnight stay in St. George on our way home from California. The Claridge inn was recommended to us by other travelers and we were told it is $45 and a clean safe place to stay. It fulfilled all expectations we had going in.

The service at the front desk was pleasant and we had a quick check in with no reservations. We stayed in a ground level room. The room was really clean, plenty of room for both of the queen beds. The bathroom was OK...seemed slightly old, but it worked. One of the towels had hair in it, and it made me think that it was not washed recently. The only other problem was that there was no shampoo supplied in the room. I had to go to the front desk. They quickly supplied us with a bottle of shampoo.

It was nice to not have to return the cards for check out in the morning, you can just leave them in the room. All in all it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend it for exactly why we were there: a quick, safe, clean one night stay on the way to another location. This is no 5 star resort...

We have stayed at the Claridge Inn many times over the past years. Usually booking several rooms at a time. The hotel has been declining recently but this last trip was our final, two of the four rooms we were in had soiled linens that were folded and placed on the shelf in the bathing area. When we took this to the office we were told it couldn't have happened, it did and we won't be returning.

We were heading back to Vegas from Monument Valley and needed a stopover for the night. I’d loosely picked St George as it was close to a ghost town (Paria) we wanted to visit, and being plonked handily on I15 was within striking distance of Vegas (where we were due to pick up a flight) for the next morning. It was the one night we hadn’t pre-booked before travelling so I hit town not really knowing where we were going to stay.

I figured there would always be a Motel 6 or Super 8 as a backstop if everywhere else was too expensive or fully booked, and so leaving the kids in the car I wandered around the hotel area - there seemed to be a whole load around Bluff St, and checked out the Holiday Inn - who wanted $130+ for the night. When I said it was too much the price dropped to a little over $100, and then seeing the look on my face it became $80, just as I was walking out of the door he called out “I can do it for $69.50!” I got another two of the inns in the area to come down to about the same when I saw The Claridge advertising $44 per night per room, and checked it out.

Just a single block building in the standard Motel configuration, the office was a tiny room on the corner. The guy manning the desk was fairly offhand but agreed to show me the room, and lo and behold it looked like pretty much every other motel room in the US. I forked over my $44 and we were in.

The room was fairly small but accommodated the two queen beds, and left enough room for the TV and clothes hanging area. The shower was old, and everything was a little tired, but definitely a notch up from the Super 8 class and two or more up from Motel 6! Best of all there was a pool, clean and tidy, along with the normal complimentary towels and loungers. With nothing else to do for an hour we splashed around in the pool and dried off in the autumn Utah sunshine, which was warmer than you’d think.

That night we ate at the Claim Jumper Steak House over the road (see separate review) and settled down for the night. Next morning we dropped the keys and set off for Vegas. Job done. The Claridge, and St George is never going to be your dream honeymoon destination, but if you’re in the vicinity at least you’ll know you have a safe bed for the night.
