This was my first visit to Madeline's - and probably my last. The staff were very efficient, cheery and appeared well trained. The first look at the menu was a shock. The selections seemed to be highly overpriced, but we figured that if the food was good enough, it would be worth it. It wasn't.
When the food came out, the salads were nothing to brag about, no special ingrediants, no special dressings, and seemed to be 'thrown' together. The potato soup was more of a potato stew. The salmon was overcooked and even charred. While the shrimp skewers were tasteful, the serving of 2 skewers of shrimp with a scoop of wild rice was very unattractive. The steak was way over cooked and small. The serving of the baked potato was unattractive and sort of just piled on. The fish and chips had 4 small pieces of fish, some overdone fries and that was all. No decoration, no attractive arrangement, just 4 pieces of fish and fries.
As is said on many cooking shows, you first feast with your eyes and then feast with the food. This restaurant failed on the former and barely passed on the later.
