“It's a Greasy Spoon - but you know, I LOVE the philly steak sandwiches!!”
Reviewed 14 February 2013

Yes it is a typical greasy spoon. They have painted and cleaned up and it still smells like grease.
But...there are times when I NEED one of the sandwiches! Also, some people like the tiny stick like fries they sell at other places, and sometimes I do to. But when you feel the need for the thick greasy fries mixed with the little crunchy ones with lots of fry sauce, this is the place you go. The service is a little slow too. Still wondering why I go? The sandwiches are full of meat and not just the little bits of meat at some places. Go for the philly's and fries. Get it to go if you need to, but try it out. Price is a little high, but you get lots to eat.

“Dirty”
Reviewed 1 January 2013

Very dirty - especially the grease on and around the cooking area. And the owner was seen mixing hot peppers with bare hands.

“IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN HERE DON'T LET THE FIRST IMPRESSION DRIVE YOU AWAY”
Reviewed 20 November 2012

IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN HERE DON'T LET THE FIRST IMPRESSION DRIVE YOU AWAY. Yes, the place is a greasy spoon. You will see bad reviews for decor. You may not want to bring your wife, girl friend or local critic here :) . The employees are friendly and helpful but the food is what you come here for. This is old fashioned food that feels good and tastes great. Old fashioned french fries yummmy. Hot sandwiches are indeed served hot! Cold sandwiches are fresh and the meats and vegetables are perfect. Bread is from a local bakery everyday. We go here several times a year. Just sit down and relax, enjoy the food. There is a reason this place can be busy at times. People aren't coming back to see the decor, they come back for the food and they have been doing it for years.

“The reviews say it all...”
Reviewed 16 November 2012

I have to admit, I was both curious and anxious to visit The Philadelphian. It is not often that you hear praises regarding an establishments menu by repeat clientele, while at the same time being told that the place is filthy and has a generally apathetic staff. In a nutshell, everything you've heard or read on Trip Advisor was correct. The sandwich, fries and onion rings were good, not great. The place was not filthy, it was borderline nauseating. Advice to all, carry out during less busy times of the day to minimize potentially noxious exposure to both the staff and environment. If you do stay, bring some Febreeze to mask the embedded smell of grease which will be permanently absorbed into your clothing when you leave. You may also want to bring some Clorox wipes for your hands, table, chair, food basket, hands, ketchup bottle, fry sauce bottle, hands, drink cup, oh and yeah, your hands. Nothing in this place has been cleaned in a millennium.

“NOT a philly cheesesteak. Long wait for food”
Reviewed 27 October 2012

I'm a recent transplant from eastern Pennsylvania and have had the opportunity to try 2 of the local cheesesteak spots in the valley. The Philadelphian was just plain terrible. The food: a good cheesesteak starts with good bread. Even alot of philly places lack this unfortunately. The bread at Philadelphian was gummy, too soft, and not wide enough to hold a considerable amount of steak. The meat resembled a roastbeef but not sure. It wasn't chopped up properly and honestly tasted like something you'd get at a gas station. The sandwich lacked the proper amounts of condiments in combination. Not enough cheese. Poor construction overall. I ended up dipping the sandwich into fry sauce, which I would never EVER do with a real philly. The fries were halfway decent however. Restaurant: If the food were good, I wouldn't care that the place was a dump. A dive requires the food to be good, which is why it's just a dump. Plus the food took forever! Plan on a long wait to get your crappy sandwich. Enjoy!
