“Hope Cemetary”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

Throughtout the rolling lawns there are many wonderful original sculptures created by many of the local Italian artisans. Every monument is engraved in Barre Steel Grey Granite, so there is continuity of the local Rock of Ages granite in the entire cemetary. It is a beautiful cemetary with perpetual care. My personal family lot is located here.

“An outdoor museum”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Hope Cemetery features monuments carved from only Barre Gray granite which mined locally. The craftmenship of the monuments is unrivaled. Here you will see a race car, a soccer ball, pyramids, a granite bed and chair, a cube that is on an apex, just to name a few. Highlight your visit with pre-recorded narration of some of the various monuments. Although I am a local, each time I go through this cemetery I see something I had not seen before. A visit to Hope Cemetery is a must!

“World Class Sculptures”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

Any tour of Barre should include the monuments of Hope Cemetery all (mostly) carved from the same Barre gray granite. Purchasing the $4.95 call-in phone guide at the Rock of Ages Visitor's Center is well worth the cost to give you an easy self-guided tour with great detailed stories for many of the finer monuments. My favorites, beyond the more elaborate ones, include the giant jigsaw puzzle piece, the fly fisherman & semi-truck pictures, and the easy chair that doesn't look to comfortable in stone. A fun family outing on any nice outdoor day.

“Very unusual!”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

This cemetery was opened in 1895. It is an 85-acre spread across well-manicured grass. All of the 10,000 plus monuments are made of Barre Gray granite. There are exceptional monument designs located here as described in the other reviews posted on this site. Indeed, Hope Cemetery is a must see. As a point of information, the other comparable attraction as far as uniqueness and beauty is the 269-acre Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York, where 152,000 people are buried.
