“Cozy Vermont getaway is a hidden gem”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

I stayed at Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn for three days in June and had a lovely time. My gentleman caller and I had wanted to stay somewhere roughly equidistant from Boston (the start of our trip) and some attractions in northern Vermont, so Bellows Falls was the perfect fit. The town itself is not overfull with amenities, but does have a gas station, pharmacy, and pizza joint, and is not far from slightly larger cities like Brattleboro. The inn was easily accessible - fewer than 5 minutes from a major highway, as well as across the street from a Chinese restaurant that offers excellent takeout. Gayle and Jon, the innkeepers, were gregarious and wonderfully accommodating. Breakfast was always delicious and inventive. We stayed in the Orchard Suite, which was a little more private from the rest of the house, and had a convenient access off our own private deck. The property was spacious and verdant, complete with fish in the pond and a chicken coop. The room itself was comfortably equipped with a queen-sized bed, TV with DVD player, wood stove (unused in the summer), air conditioning, and private bathroom with separate tub and shower. Though not advertised as such, I can definitely confirm that the tub fits two ;).
If you're looking for a homey getaway with a personal touch in the beautiful scenery of Vermont, this is the perfect place for you. I don't know if I will be able to return to Vermont any time soon, but if I do, I hope to be able to stay here again.

My husband and I enjoyed our lovely stay at Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn. We stayed in the Orchard Suite. Although it did not have the same charm as the rest of the house, we did enjoy the privacy, size of the room, quiet location, and private entrance. The room was, however, quite hot in May, although the rest of the house was very cool. We had to keep the deck doors open constantly to try to get some air flow in there. The bathroom was very lovely and had more character than the main bedroom. I enjoyed that there was a separate bath and "powder" room before you entered the regular bathroom with shower and sink, etc. Gayle and Jon were ever so kind and thoughtful. They were so sweet and we enjoyed talking with them during our stay. The breakfasts were always delicious and the treats in the early evening just as yummy - especially the chocolate chip cookies! Although we did not find much to do in Bellows Falls, particularly, there was much to explore in the surrounding towns. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and assure that you will, as well.

Room Tip: We peeked into some of the empty rooms the first night of our stay, and absolutely adored the Garden...

We spent two splendid nights at the Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn and cannot wait till we stay again. Gayle & Jon are wonderful innkeepers and they welcomed us by phone while we were still en route. We stayed in the Orchard Suite which was lovely, relaxing, & peaceful. There is a nice view of the pond from the deck. Breakfasts were deliciously yummy and Gayle took great care in wrapping up my scone for later! The view of the Connecticut River was beautiful and should be an ever changing canvas throughout the seasons. The endless supply of treats - cookies, snacks, coffee, tea - were welcoming throughout the day. Gayle & Jon feel like old friends and we wish them all the best! We must come back to check on the baby chicks!!! In addition to the ambiance, everything was spotless!!! Thank you for making us feel at home and welcomed. We really needed that!!!

Thank you! We feel like old friends and loved having you stay with us. The conversations we had were very inspiring and awesome! Since you have been gone, the trees and flowers are blooming, the river has thawed out and flowing and the chicks are thriving, getting bigger and are unrecognizable! We can't wait to welcome you both back again.

Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn is a fantastic bed & breakfast for many reasons. The first and most important reason it is so wonderful would have to be the Innkeepers. Gayle and Jon are fantastic hosts who are always ready to answer questions, offer suggestions, chat, or accommodate their guest in any way.
We were greeted at the door with a fantastic "hello", samples of some of Halladay's delicious dips, and some fresh baked cookies! They also have complimentary tea, coffee, and bottled water. We checked in late and were going to go out for dinner, and Gayle offered to make reservations for us at one of the restaurants.
Our stay was during a not-so-busy weekend, so we pretty much had our pick of rooms. Each room has its own private bathroom, which is awesome! The rooms are cozy, well decorated, clean, and really feel like home. I especially thought the bed pillows were great because they weren't the overly fluffy hotel pillows that seem to swallow your whole head. They were normal, comfortable pillows. The mattress was also extremely comfortable. My wife and I stayed in the Terrace Room which had a great view of the CT river and NH. My parents stayed in the River View room, which was recommended for them by Gayle because my mother has difficulty with stairs. They loved their room and said they slept very well. The only slightly negative thing I could possibly mention is that the walls seem a bit thin, but I do take into consideration that it is a very old house, although it has been remodeled wonderfully.
In the morning we went downstairs and were greeted with fresh coffee to start our morning and a very pretty table setting with a wonderful view of the CT river out of the large picture window. Breakfast started with a fantastic fresh fruit parfait, loaded with fruit. That was followed by fresh baked cranberry-orange scones, still warm and so very yummy! After that we were served a delicious stuffed French toast with maple syrup and apple-wood smoked bacon. Compared to the breakfast at Harvest Barn Inn, the complimentary breakfast at the chain hotel off exit 7 looks like pig slop (egg beaters, machine made pancakes, cruddy bacon, bad coffee, etc.).
After returning home from our stay I received a personalized thank-you email from Gayle and Jon, not a cookie-cutter blanket email, which was extremely nice because our visit to Bellows Falls this time was for unfortunate reasons. The rooms, the private bathrooms, the view, and the food all make Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn a nice bed and breakfast, but Gayle and Jon make it a home away from home. I cannot wait to stay there again.

Wow! Saying Thank You for this review doesn't seem to convey the feeling we got when we read it! Our goal here at the Harvest Barn Inn is to ensure each guest receives full value for their stay, is happy with the accommodations and service, and has a restful stay. My personal goal (and Jon's too!) is that each guest who comes as a stranger, leaves as our friends. We truly enjoyed having you all for our guests and now as our friends. We hope to see you again soon!

We spent a wonderful weekend filled with scrapbooking, enjoying great food and making new friends. The barn was spacious and set up perfectly for our group. The bedrooms were clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. We will be returning soon for another scrapbook weekend. Thanks to Gayle and Jon for welcoming us to your home.

My husband and I have been wanting to come to Vermont with our kids (ages 11, 8) to check out the skiing/snowboarding at Okemo. Finding the Halladay Harvest Barn Inn helped to make our trip so special. It was wonderful to come to such a great "home" after a long, cold day at the mountain. The kids loved the hot chocolate and cookies and we all appreciated the kind hospitality of Gayle and Jon. The breakfasts were amazing thanks to Gayle's cooking and attention to the needs of our family. Our accomodations in the Orchard Room fit our needs perfectly. We would recommend this to anyone who is looking to find a warm. welcoming place to stay in the Bellows Falls area!

It was great to have you spend the week with us during school vacation. Although it was a snowy week, it appeared you maneuvered the roads to Okemo quite easily! The Orchard Suite is a perfect place for a family to unwind after a cold day on the slopes! We hope you come again.

My wife and I were looking for a nice B&B to stay at in Vermont and pretty open to the location, so we decided on Halladay's Harvest Barn Inn based on reviews here. What a great choice it was! Our room, the Orchard Suite, was fabulous; really spacious and comfortable. The Inn is perched up high overlooking the Connecticut river with gorgeous winter views from the front. Everything was extremely clean and well taken care of, with nice common areas to sit and relax. The Inn has WiFi as well, though the connection was spotty from our room.

The best part about this B&B is the wonderful hospitality and attentiveness provided by the Innkeepers, Gayle and Jon. Gayle made the best breakfast I've ever had. It was just incredible. And she welcomed us warmly into her home, helping us with great restaurant suggestions/reservations and giving us advice on things to do in the area.

This was our first time to this region of VT and we enjoyed exploring Bellows Falls, which has a quaint downtown area with some good restaurants and shops, as well as the nearby towns of Chester, Grafton and Weston all offering their own Vermont charm.

All in all, we had a really great stay and highly recommend this Inn to other couples.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Orchard Suite. Very private--even has it's own deck/entrance. The room is very...

Thank you so much for your review and all the really great pics! It is surely a winter wonderland this year! The CT river and surrounding areas look so beautiful covered in snow. Thanks also for pointing out all the great areas to explore that are so close to the inn. Vermont is a beautiful state and we invite all to come and check out the area, while staying with us here at the inn!
