I was pleased to see that there wasn't a big coffee chain in the center of Bennington, but happy to find this cafe.
I didn't get to eat their food, but all the baked goods looked very nice and home made.
Coffee was good.
I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere.

When we visit Bennington three times a year, our headquarters are always South Street Café. On Sunday, after church, be sure to stop in for the Jazz Trio. You will be entertained for over an hour by the best calm music you wanted to hear over great coffee. The Open Mike nights on Tuesdays are not to be missed. The folks behind the "bar" are very knowledgeable and friendly. On the walls are different art work. This is WAY better than any Starbucks you'd ever find. Don't miss it!

This coffee shop has sandwiches and a wide variety of coffees, baked goods and snacks. There is casual seating in the shop, including sofas, lounge chairs, and frequently lots of local artists's work hanging on the walls. Reading materials provided. WiFi available. There is a jazz session on Sundays, and on Tuesdays, an open mike. This is an interesting hangout for college students, locals, and for those just passing through, with a wide variety of things to look at and entertain yourself with. Only ever had coffee here and it was quite good, fresh, and the service is good. CH

This was highly recommended by some locals but I thought it was just average. The blueberry muffin was very good, the whoopee pie was average (if not a bit dry). The coffee was average at best. There was a decent crowd when we came in at 2pm on a Friday. We ended up sitting on the couch which was not exactly conducive to eating and drinking. The staff were a bit snobby when I tried to pay with a credit card (they apparently don't take credit cards and let me know that in a real condescending tone).

Stopped in en route to the mountains for skiing to grab a latte and snack. Food and drink great, atmosphere so so. Good spot to stop passing through to enjoy a little treat. Wouldn't want to spend the afternoon hanging out there. Eclectic mix of people. Not my crowd.
