Pathetic service and kitchen comedy - stay far, far away! Read the rest if you are even thinking about visiting here.
Just back from our first dinner ever at the Fat Spy. Also our last dinner ever at the Fat Spy or anything affiliated with it (hotel, steakhouse, etc.)
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, and despite confirming for the tavern, we were told our reservation was in the steakhouse. Manager then admitted mistake and put us in the Tavern. Our waiter arrived quickly, and took our drinks and apps order. These arrived, we placed our dinner orders, and then didn't see our waiter again for more than 30 minutes. Not even when the food arrived (one burger entree short, and the wrong sides with every entree that was served!). When we requested he stop by, he apologized for the missed burger, said it would be right up, and also took order for another round of drinks. Once again, we didn't see him for more than 20 minutes. Everyone else finished, still no burger, and no drinks. We called him over and cancelled the orders and asked for the check. When he brought the check, he said "sorry, but I can have the burger wrapped to go because it is now ready" (more than an hour after ordering). We said sure, thanks. He then came back saying "the kitchen says it will take another 20 minutes, so you probably don't want it.". Insult to injury, despite 18% tip added in automatically, the credit card receipt for signature just built that 18% into total, and had a blank to be filled in for tip with suggested 15% additional!
No thanks - never again

We were staying up at Stratton Mountain and the skiing was great with all the fresh snow! We decided to hit the Fat Spy on our way out to Manchester to do some holiday shopping, and man were we disapointed! Friends of ours from Albany had been there a little over a month ago and said the food and service had really improved from the previous season when we all made the trip in together. They said the service was very friendly, they were told there was a new chef, and the food was fantastic. Our trip was a much different story, however. The place was pretty dead for a Friday night, and a strange foreign man took our drink order. He was pleasant enough, but a bit uptight, possibly the manager or owner since he was older. But in short it just didn't make for a very fun dining experience. When our server finally made it to the table they didn't seem like they enjoyed their job very much. We then asked about the food since we had been hearing good things, and were told that the "new" chef had already left the company. I guess he took the delicious creations with him because what they were serving barely qualifies as food. The "menu", and I use that term loosely, was a bunch of slapped together bar-food. Nothing that looked like a chef's creation. The nachos came out with fake orange cheese, and our burger was charred and tasteless. Normally in this situation we would have opted to get drunk, but the thought of alcohol after a meal like that was none-to-appetizing! We didn't eat much, and opted for snacks later out in Manchester. The next time we are at Stratton we will be sure to drive right past this place. What a waste of a great location!

The bartender Steve was awesome. He's amazing. The buffalo wings were good, the calamari was good with a few questionable pieces. My Mahi fish was over cooked. My boyfriend had the pork tenderlions with spinach and mash potatoes. Everything was good expect his mash potatoes was way tooooooo salty. The scene was quiet for the time that we was there, which wasn't bad, we shot a few games of pool. The tavern has great potential.

We had a steak and fish dinners the first night. Absolutely perfect. The second night we opted for burgers. They were out of this world. Clam chowder and French onion soup best I've had in a long time.

Great location, improved menu with great choices. Crab cakes are excellent, burgers are really nice. The service and genuine hospitality is the biggest improvement. Will be making this a regular spot now. Best casual dining in the area
