A really good location, with clean rooms and comfy beds. The staff are very helpful indeed, and the air conditioning worked well for us. You get exactly what you are paying for, with the bonus of some history thrown in for free and the quirky addition of an integral cinema. We got a deal that included a $50 subsidy towards a meal in the Marina restaurant and free tickets to the cinema. So, all in all a nice place to stay that makes you feel like an adventurous traveller rather than a tourist.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

My overnight stay at the Latchis Hotel was just fine. The room was smaller than I expected (having looked at photos online) and I was surprised that the Hotel did not put a queen-sized bed in the room, as there was plenty of space. But the double bed was fine and quite comfortable.

A great art deco hotel with wonderful views across the valley into New Hampshire. Staff very helpful and location excellent. The restaurant within the complex is worth a visit and who would think that a small town like Brattleboro could sustain a classic cinema (as well as a multiplex) also within the hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front.

The Latchis Hotel has a lot going for it: walkable downtown location, an attractive lobby, earnest committed front desk staff, convenient free parking, and a clean well-organized breakfast area. Once you get up to your room, however, the charm may begin to wear a bit thin. My room faced the street, and traffic/pedestrian noise abounded. A tattoo parlor bustled late into the night. With no air conditioning, there was no choice but to leave the window open a crack. A floor fan kept the air moving. The mattress on the double bed was -how do I put this?-um-lumpy and saggy. The bathroom contained a large support column (old building, I know) that blocked the approach to the shower/tub, making temperature adjustments all but impossible. If you have traveled abroad, you are familiar with places of this ilk. It's ideal for those with a sense of adventure and a taste for the unusual. Guess that's just not me. An "A" for effort, Latchis.

A hotel in a downtown area is nice as you can easily get around town and do some sight seeing. On the other hand it makes for a large amount of noise as it was during our stay there. Seems that particular weekend had some people causing a disturbance outside and they were rather boisterous doing so. Hearing all that nonsense going on had us highly disturbed.

The Hotel itself was quaint with friendly employees and clean rooms although it was obvious the rooms needed some new furniture. Breakfast was adequate but lacking in choices, especially with the high rate we paid for the rooms.

The cool par was being able to access the theatre right from within the hotel. Nice touch.

Overall, ok stay but would love to see breakfast improved as breakfast is certainly a highlight of anyones stay at a hotel.

Management response:Responded 2 July 2012

I am sympathetic with this guests troublesome noise issue. The Latchis Hotel is a downtown hotel and as such one can expect occasional public and some street noise from time to time. It is highly unusual for late night street noise but it is a public street and therefore hard to control every aspect of the public action.

Our guest comfort furnishings are replaced as we find appropriate furnishings that will compliment the various historic rooms. This is a process and we are about 90% complete to date. Beds, dressers and writing desks are original 1938 Rock maple made in Vermont and will stay in the rooms. Bathroom fixtures are original, work well, clean and sanitary and the guests love the spaces. Sorry, I will not apologize for the room furnishings.

We offer a standard continental breakfast with a variety of quality breads, muffins, fresh bean ground coffees, tea, juices and variety of oatmeal. Full sit-down hot breakfast is offered and served at a number of wonderful local nearby cafes and small shops within walking distance of the hotel.

Booked room 205 and the room was spacious and clean with a great bathroom. The view over the hills was superb and the town is really pleasant. The hotel throws in a free continental breakfast with some great homemade cake.

The staff were so friendly with Savannah being especially helpful

Close by Mocha Joes and Fireworks are worth a visit

Room Tip: Room 205 has a great view and although at the front of the hotel was very quiet

We stayed here during a quick trip through New England. This hotel has so much charm and personality. We booked the purple room on the third floor and were quite pleased with the rate. Our room was huge with a good view and purple to boot! The bathroom amenities were nicer than most of what you find in chain hotels. The staff was very courteous and quick to assist us. The breakfast choices are limited, but sufficient.
