Vermont country deli was a happy coincidence since we had headed to Brattleboro to check out a Mexican restaurant in town. At first glance it looks no different than the dozens of other roadside general stores/sandwich shops that Vermont has to offer, wrong. The first thing you see when you enter are pizza sized, homemade cookies and you sort of know "This place is going to be awesome!"
My husband and I are huge farm to table enthusiasts so we were thrilled to see that the majority of foods there were organic, homemade, or locally sourced. Not only do they have a million sandwich choices but hot foods as well, ranging from maple BBQ pulled pork to vegetable curry. We found it tough to decide so bought enough food to feed a small army. After we bagged up our seemingly ridiculous lunch portions we turned our attention to the massive dessert counter featuring at least 50 different types of sweets from chocolates and pies to cannoli and fudge. We even picked up some goodies for friends in the little general store area. We'd literally drive 2 hours again just for the food. Beautiful area, great people, amazing food!
TIP: Mac and Cheese, yes and more yes.
