The room was clean but the age of the decor made it difficult to fully realize it was clean. Bathroom was recently remodeled and it pains me to see that they spent money on a renovation that they won't get their money out of. MDF baseboards in the bathroom and a new toilet that rocked on the floor just has future disaster written all over it. I think it's wise to ask for a newer room.

The spa is the treat at this hotel. It is dated as well but having a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and indoor pool was really nice. Often times, if you can find a place with a steam room, they don't work very well. This one produced a lot of steam and was almost too hot.

Overall it's a hotel with a lot of potential but needs some time to fully realize it.

To the Hotel...get a new contractor because your getting ripped off.

The Colonial Motel sign stated it was family owned, but the staff revealed that it had not been the case for years. As was stated in another review, get ready for 1972! The motel was very old and run-down, but there were a multitude of workers working to make repairs, fresh paint, and landscape. Unfortunately, it was evident that the workers were unskilled. We stayed in a large room in the rear building that had a huge king size bed. The bathroom had been "renovated," and the entire room repainted. Sadly, a six year old could have done a better job picking colors and painting inside the lines. Paint had even gotten into the rug. The bathroom renovation was a good attempt, but was akin to a DIY job gone wrong. Staff went out of their way to be hospitable and friendly, but they gave an air of knowing the direness of the situation. We intended to use the Spa /pool building, but declined when we realized it was opened up to community members much like a YMCA. The place was actually clean, but did not appear to be so because of the aged and tired condition. It also did not help that workers continued to dump old toliets, mattresses and a/c units in the carriage house out back where all could see. A roll-off dumpster would have been a better choice. Alas, we got what we paid for at almost half the price of the Holiday Inn Express across the street.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms first.

This motel has a number of worrying reviews, so we were nervous before our stay.
But my friends and I were happy enough with our stay.
The location is good - minutes away from shops, restaurants and bars.
The rooms were very spacious and the bed was HUGE! The bathroom, while nothing special, did its job.
The room (and the whole motel really) does have a slightly 'run down' feel. It's a bit faded in places.
We didn't have time to use the facilities but they looked good from the outside.
I'd recommend staying here if you're passing through Brattleboro; if you're staying longer, you may be more comfortable elsewhere.

Dirty, rundown motel. The linens were stained, the cable kept freezing (interesting trying to watch a movie, although you have time to discuss what just happened), when someone walked by the second floor room it was very loud and sounded like they were above you, there was a hole in the outside balcony covered by a rug (Huh), get the picture. If you want a place to sleep and a hot shower this one is for you. Otherwise I would skip it.

We had no hotel reservations and called because one of the locals said this is a good place to stay. The person at the desk said they had no vacancies so we continued our search to no avail, so we decided to continue our search. We then decided to go there to see if they knew of any other hotels and low and behold they had a room. Well, we were happy to find a place to stay and booked it for 2 nights. The room was clean but needed some updating. The TV was OLD (type with big back, not flat screen), which wouldn't have been bad except the cable wire was broken and the reception was terrible. Other than the TV the room wasn't bad. The bed was VERY COMFORTABLE and they do supply a small refrigerator and coffee pot. The next day we stopped back at the room to change clothes ad decide to have a piece of cake which i baked and brought with us. It was in the refrigerator but when I went to get it, it was gone. I called the front desk and they said there was a mix up and they thought we were only staying one night. I told them that was paid for 2 nights up front. The lady ad the desk was very nice and apologetic. A few minutes later I got a phone call from her and she said they had my cake. Someone delivered it back to there room. There was no hair dryer so bring your own if you are staying in older room. This hotel does have a new section with flat screen TV's and probably more amenities. Beggers can't be choosers. We did go there the last minute and took a chance. In there morning you have a choice of dry cereal, juice, muffins and coffee or tea with a nice room to eat breakfast in. They also have a restaurant in front but they do close at 9:00 PM, so if you go out you have to plan on being back early enough to eat. Not bad to stay at but I would suggest making reservations before you go and ask for a newer room. The air conditioner is noisy in older room. I had to hit it to stop the rattling. Reasonable priced and quiet at night.

Room Tip: Ask for newer remodeled rooms if you want Flat screen TV and more amenities Bring your own hair dryer. They do have an indoor "lap" pool and spa so bring your bathing suit
