“Ok, but not worth the money.”
Reviewed 6 October 2008

The hampton inn is nice enough- everything was super clean, staff was friendly, etc, but really, the only difference between this hotel and other "budget" hotels in the area is the pool/hot tub. And the pool is FREEZING, so i couldn't even use it. So, if you just want a nice clean room- you might as well book elsewhere for less money.

Otherwise, this hotel didn't do anything wrong- it was just a little overpriced considering the location and other comparable hotels in the area. I would stay here again if it was cheaper, and if their pool wasn't so cold!

We just stayed there this weekend. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Every morning we had a hot breakfast. The location was also a plus. Not far from shopping or down town. Also, not far from Mt Snow for skiing. We would stay there again.

This was not like other Hampton Inns we have stayed at. We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Express 2 miles south of this Hampton, which is a good deal, but I wanted to "go upscale" last year. Big mistake. On the surface, from the outside, and walking in the lobby, it appeared to be a normal Hampton Inn, but the room seemed shabby and run-down, and the price was VERY high for what it is, and very high for the semi-rural area it is in. The breakfast was "blah" and the orange juice seemed to be spoiled (yuck). The staff seemed unhappy. I would not want to go back to this hotel even if the price was cut in half.

We have stayed at Hampton's in the Buffalo and Binghamton NY areas which were extremely nice and well run and which we liked a whole lot more than this one.

I was impressed upon arriving. The cleanliness of the entire building is something you don't see at most hotels, and the woman at the front desk was terrrific. However, the advertised whirlpool was only a hot tub (no jets!) and the pool water was cold. My room was elegant and spotless, but it was 54 degrees in there and took a full hour to heat up once I turned the heat to ON! The wobbly toilet and the broken security latch made me uncomfortable as well, and though the front desk responded to my call with the appropriate concern, I was treated very rudely by the maintenance man, then by the GM the next morning. It is very sad to see such a beautiful hotel run by people who don't care about their customers.

The worst hotel experience of my life.

The Jacuzzi was intermittent. The air conditioner in my room was broken. I reported the problem. After an hour and a half of having maintenance in and out of my room (they tried after all), and waiting another half hour, management contacted me (after midnight) to tell me they had another room. This after telling me that they were "not authorized" to honor the 100% guarantee, offering no room charge.

The new room had working A/C, but no jacuzzi at all, many tv channels did not work properly, toilet did not properly flush. An employee knocked on our door at 7am on a Sunday morning, waking us up.

I complained the next morning to the desk clerk, and gave her the laundry list of problems, which she assured me would reach the manager. She also told me that she was also not authorized to extend me the 100% guarantee, and that only the night auditor could.

Guess what, they charged the $185.41 to my card anyway!!!! I called the night auditor (in the middle of the night, I might add). He also told me that he was "not authorized" to remove the charge!!!!
This issue is still unresolved.

BEWARE OF THE 100% GUARANTEE. IT IS 100% NONSENSE!!!!

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — The complete incompetence of management. They have no concept of customer service.

A lovely surprise to find a relatively new hotel with rather high-end furnishings, comfortable bed and quality linens, free internet access, nice pool. No free weights in the fitness room and equipment not much to boast of if expecting a serious workout. Forget the breakfast and go to a place in town or Bickford's just down the road (we're serious - the most wholesome, delectable whole wheat blueberry nut pancakes imaginable!). We STILL haven't figured out WHAT those limp strips of whatever were in the chafing dish! No orange juice and mass-assembly-looking eggs (I think), acidic undrinkable coffee. These are the lowpoints, along with the fact that , though unintrusive, the hotel staff is pretty indifferent and do not do much beyond what is required. Overall, it is a gem in some beautiful country .

  • Liked — Nice furnishings and photos/graphics throughout
  • Disliked — Breakfast and aloofness of staff
  • Tips/Secrets — If you want to walk a lot, no sidewalks to town

The Hampton Inn is across the parking lot from the Quality Inn. It is a bit pricier, but it is more modern. Check-in was speedy and painless. The room was surprisingly well-appointed and spacious. The breakfast area was large and not overcrowded as it often is in a hotel with free continental breakfast. This, despite the fact the hotel was completely booked. The free high-speed internet connection in the room (wireless in lobby) had more bandwidth available than similar hotels I have stayed in recently, making for efficient use of my online time.

There are many restaurants in the Brattleboro area. For those who prefer to eat within walking distance, Dhaba, an Indian restaurant, is right across the parking lot in the Quality Inn. It has excellent food, which may be ordered at varying degrees of spiciness.

Overall, the Hampton Inn is probably the high end of the chains in the Brattleboro area, an is an excellent choice if you are not on a very tight budget. Indeed, it would rank in the top 20% of Hampton Inns I have stayed at over the years. So despite it's higher cost, it still may be the best value in the area for the business traveler who likes comfort and requires a few amenities like high-speed internet access and an exercise room. Families will like the indoor pool and jacuzzi as well.
