“A Perfect place to take walks !”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

The Inn has already been so lovingly described by others . But i had a purpose and a check list : Walk down a few blocks to April Cornell's Flag Ship store and outlet. Then on Lake Champlain Chocolate Shop and nearby factory. Of course, not to be missed : Ben & Jerry's 'Birth-Place" and nearby retail shop. Church Street is closed off and has wonderful restaurants that spill out onto the street If the thought of walking up hill a few blocks is daunting...College Street has a free bus that runs up and down until 9 pm. So it is just a flat walk back. A plate of cookies is placed by your bed. With the thought of a lovely leisurely breakfast in the solarium in the morning, who would't have extra sweet dreams..!!!

Room Tip: The pictures on the website are very accurate.

Green Features: This is a green hotel. Each room has separate recycle basket. They is very little paper products use.

From the time we arrived until we checked out, we immensely enjoyed our stay here. The Inn is wonderfully maintained and managed by owners who obviously treat their Inn with love and care. We stayed in room #3 Martha's Memoirs, a lovely room on the second floor. We found the cleanliness most outstanding! We enjoyed the most beautiful garden and the refreshments (coffee, tea and lemonade self service whenever one wishes). A delicious breakfast was served in a charming solarium. Even though the Inn was full, we never had the sense of it being over-crowded. We also had some interesting conversations with the owner, and wonderful interaction with Whitney, who was on duty at the desk when we arrived. We were sorry our stay was only for one night! I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at this remarkable Inn.

Gorgeous Inn, immaculately maintained inside and out! Very welcoming staff and owners on premise. Beautiful 'common' rooms on the first floor with use of kitchen fridge-a bonus for travelers!

Always a concern to find a nice (gluten-free) breakfast, I need not worry any longer! Loved our deliciously prepared breakfast each morning. Beautifully presented and served in the Solarium with a choice of juices, coffee and/or tea! "Marlee" was friendly, sweet and helpful to us with any questions we had about the area. We were happy to see her both at breakfast and during our check in and check out!

What a treat it was to stay here each time. Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: We have stayed in this B & B twice and my favorite room is the Champlain Lookout. Very spacious...

Green Features: When we left our windows open to let the fresh air in, we were happy to return at day's end to find the A/C wasn't turned on and it was comfy, cozy!

The highlight of our visit to Burlington, VT was being treated as honored guests at this beautifully maintained historic mansion. We loved our immaculate, comfortable and quiet room on the third floor with a view of Lake Champlain. We especially enjoyed the many living areas on the main floor of the house with its fascinating historical details throughout and the beautiful grounds and gardens. The hosts were warm and generous and proud to be caretakers of this amazing masterpiece. Everything about our stay, including the delicious breakfasts and homemade cookies, surpassed our expectations. We parked our car and were able to walk to all our destinations. However, we took advantage of the free shuttle on College Avenue to return up the hill to the mansion. Thank you to the Davis family for sharing your beautiful home.

This review is long overdue. I came here for my mini honeymoon last year and have been meaning to write a review ever since. This is such a beautiful bed and breakfast. The service and breakfast are exceptional. The staff is very friendly and willing to help you navigate Burlington. We loved everything about our stay and we love to return one day.

Stayed in larger 3-person room on top floor. Stairs will be pretty arduous for older folks or anyone not in good physical shape, although each landing has chairs for resting. Beautiful soaking tub in bathroom, but shower is very small and the walls are plastic, which bangs and clonks when you knock your knees and elbows into it. Daybed in separate room divided by translucent curtain from the other sleeping area. Daybed is rather hard and sags a little in the middle which gave me a backache every morning. Intense A/C in larger sleeping area leads to that area becoming quite cold, while the other smaller sleeping area can be hot at night. Turning the temp down makes the smaller area much too hot.
Fairly good breakfast; a choice of pancakes or French Toast, yogurt/granola, and an egg dish each morning. I have had much better food at other local B&B's. The staff in general was quite friendly and accommodating, except for our server at breakfast each morning, who barely spoke to us. I would expect outgoing, cheerful, welcoming staff at an up-scale B&B like this one.
The gardens and out door areas are outstanding, and tip my rating up from average to very good.

Room Tip: Larkin Suite is on the top floor, up many stairs, and does get noise of other guests on those stairs...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our guests are the best source of information and feedback to ensure we deliver a relaxing and truly enjoyable experience.
As you know from your stay, the Inn was built in 1881. For over 100 years it was a single family home. Having spoken with people that grew up in the house we know that great attention was taken preserving the historic integrity of the home. Over the years when changes were made to the home that very same approach was applied. On the occasion that the home’s original design presented a guest room configuration challenge, our approach was blending and balancing the goal of preservation with guest comfort. In the case of your room the solution that presented itself was a 32” shower so that a larger, soaking tub would fit in the space.
Our guest’s experience and comfort is of great importance. Thank you for bringing the comfort of the daybed to our attention, I will check into its condition personally. As for the temperature control in the room, we have installed ceiling fans in each room to work in parallel with the A/C unit, our apologies if it was not to your comfort. We will be sure to look into other solutions.
We pride ourselves on breakfast and strive to incorporate the freshest ingredients we can, from the farmers’ market to the Inn’s own gardens. Each day, our chef spends a great deal of time crafting 3 breakfast selections with broad palette appeal, our apologies that we did not satisfy yours. We welcome the opportunity to do so in the future. Most mornings breakfast service can get pretty busy. Our servers are trained in many aspects of the business and strive to attend to all of our guests equally, however occasionally and unfortunately, the multitude of tasks gets the better of us. My sincere apologies if you felt even the slightest degree of inattentiveness.
We do hope you will consider the Willard Street Inn again if your travels should bring you back to the Burlington area, and thank you again for your feedback.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. This is a beautiful, spacious inn which is very solidly built and well-maintained. The grounds are large and filled with amazing gardens. The breakfasts are wonderful and I particularly appreciated having a choice among three entrees. The location is ideal for access to downtown or the university. Although we always drove into town (and parked in the evenings in the garage which connects into Church Street), you could easily walk (but return trip is uphill). The university is also within walking distance. We spent a week in Vermont doing a giant loop and staying in 6 cities, and Burlington was our favorite. A very fun town with lots to do, and The Willard Street Inn was a perfect home base for us. Also, the innkeeper and others were very welcoming.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Periwinkle room on the 3rd floor and it worked fine for our purpose. It is on the...
