“pricey but nice”
Reviewed 21 July 2012

Sat outside recently for drinks and appetizers. Outdoor seating is great on Church Street; lots of tourists this time of year and the usual collection of Burlington street people. Our appetizers were pretty decent. My calamari was outstanding and my wife's salad was great. Our martini's were superb and the glasses were properly chilled. Prices were a little high; the martini's ring in at $11 each, as was my calamari. Service by Tyler was impeccable.

“Over Rated-- It's Just Average (or Less)”
Reviewed 18 July 2012

A group of family and friends dined here for a special occasion. We were about 10 in number, so we really should have had a waiter or waiters carefully watching out for our orders and needs. Disappointingly, the service was spotty and indifferent. The waiter repeatedly referred to us as "guys" (overly casual for a higher end restaurant), notwithstanding that we were a group of males and females. We had to wave frantically to get our orders for drinks and appetizers taken, and the waiter would then come almost grudgingly to see what we wanted. Service was markedly devoid of any "please" or "thank you" or apologies for delays. The food took quite a long time to come and was delivered as it became ready-- so some party members had their plates, while other waited for another 10 minutes for theirs. The food itself was just so-so. Presentation was nothing special, flavor average, spicing ordinary, ingredients average. The meal dragged on because of slow service and slow food preparation. When the time came for the bill (it was big $$$), we had to search for our waiter, who after several requests to the bartender, eventually appeared without apology and then went away again. Ten minutes later he returned with our bill and cheerfully said, "I hope you guys had a good time!" We paid our bill and left-- I doubt any of us will return based on the slow, indifferent service, average to below average food preparation, and the overpriced cuisine. This is a rather pretentious restaurant that is really, at best, ordinary, and that disappoints those who are hoping for more.

“A front-row seat to the Downtown Burlington experience”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

We visited on a lovely Saturday evening in July, so the "entertainment" was provided by the lively character of Burlington, enhanced by a delectable meal outdoors at Church & Main. Our son/his girlfriend and our daughter joined us for a full course meal that included appetizers galore, wine and beer, soups, salads, entrees of steak, seafood, and veal, and attractively presented sides, as well as a creme brulee for dessert. The food ranged from very good to excellent, and the service and attentiveness was extraordinary. We had a delightful experience....we were able to relax, converse, and have the sights and sounds of this small city contribute to a wonderful culinary experience.

We found the portions to be spot on, neither skimpy nor overwhelming.

A great spot in the downtown area...especially in the summertime !

“Great food”

I had a grilled halibut special and my husband had a mixed seafood dish with shrimp, clams and mussels. Both were excellent.

“Too expensive for what you get”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

I was really looking forward to our evening at Church & Main but left feeling disappointed. The menu offered a decent variety but the entree sides are minimal and the entree portions were very small for the price. It might be good choice if you are on the South Beach diet as many of the offerings did not include a starch and the few small slices of bread in the basket were almost laughable. We started with the calamari which had a lovely flavor but the texture was very tough and chewy. I gave up after a couple of bites but my husband managed to work his way through half of it. My husband had the duck special which he described as good but not great. It was a decent size serving of duck (leg and breast) but was garnished with just a small severing of vegetables on the side. I had a pasta dish that I remember little about other than it was in a huge bowl with a small amount of pasta and peas in a rich cream sauce (that was not identified on the menu). We each had two glasses of house wine and with a tip our bill totaled $130. The meal certainly was not remarkable, a poor value and Burlington (and Shelburne) have much better choices for fine dining than Church and Main.
