“Best in VT”

The coffee is great, but you can get pretty decent coffee a bunch of places, what sets Muddy Waters apart is the atmosphere and the other drinks. In the summer their milkshakes are incredible, in the winter there's nothing better than their hot alcoholic beverages.

Muddy Waters has the best atmosphere of any coffee shop I've been to in Vermont, the music is good, but not too loud, there are always people around, but it doesn't feel crowded, and the exposed wood and brick create a great space to read the paper.

“A Fun Plan To Go”
Reviewed 2 December 2012

We love the smoothies and the food at Muddy Waters (although there is not much for people with food allergies). It's a comfortable environment and people like to sit there with friends and/or work. The one problem I have is that because people stay there for so long it is not always easy to find a place to sit. And, if you sit near the front door in the winter it is cold. Otherwise it's a great place, and their smoothies are really good and filling.

“Great coffee house”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

this no frills coffee house is a local favorite. they offer great coffees, teas, flavored soda, hot chocolates, soups, hummus and other healthy munchies. need some down time to yourself or a place to sit for a quiet chat with a friend? consider Muddy's. service is offered with a warm smile and welcome. plenty of books, new papers, and games for those empty handed. community bulletin board not to be missed.

“Cozy Spot”
Reviewed 1 October 2012

We ducked into Muddy Waters to get out of the drizzle on Saturday. We discovered good coffee, yummy home cooked comfort food and a cozy atmosphere. A perfect place to gather with friends, or nestle into a corner booth to study. A little gem in downtown Burlington.

“Awesome atmosphere, average cappuccino”
Reviewed 11 July 2012

Only tried their cappuccino, so I cannot comment on anything else on their menu. I tried cappuccinos at Firebird Cafe in Essex Junction, and at Uncommon Grounds in Burlington and Muddy Waters was the best of the three. However, it was not a real cappuccino like they serve in Italy or NYC. It was basically a double shot of espresso with some foam on top. Flavor was bitter and burnt, buzz was sub-par. But it was the best cappuccino I've had in Vermont so far (just moved here a week ago). The atmosphere was very nice and I will definitely go back to try some other items on their menu, but I will not order a cappuccino again.
