“Great idea, but not-so-great execution”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

I spent three nights there with business meetings at the facility. Hotel Vermont is one of the newest hotels in downtown Burlington, and its concept reflects the city's current flair -- hip, youth-oriented, and environmentally aware. HV's creators were design oriented. That's reflected in all the public spaces. The natural oak trims in the lobby, elevators walls, and hallways make a pleasing aesthetic statement. Money spent on design, however, must have led to cutbacks elsewhere. The six-story building does not have enough elevators, and one of the two does frequent double-duty as a freight elevator. Along with time waiting, you'll frequently ride with trash bags and linen carts. The rear elevator doors on one elevator open into maintenance and storage spaces on multiple floors. The builders also saved money by scrimping on the quality of guest room construction. Some of the bathroom fixtures are cheaply attached to the walls, and the electrical outlets reflect shoddy work. The shower's wall-mounted soap and shampoo bottles dribble rather than dispense. More than one of my group reported problems with broken plaster or "springy" electric wall plugs. I liked the simple room design and furnishings, although others may find the guest rooms bare. HV, please do buy some folding luggage racks, though. The only current alternatives are the floor, the window seat, or the desk. Location is great -- a few blocks to Church Street and an equal distance to the waterfront. Finally, service needs some attention to detail. The youthful staff was friendly and well-meaning, but seemed to lack mature direction. I couldn't interest anyone in seating me for breakfast one morning and ended up going next door. Food service was otherwise okay as long as expectations are not too high.

Room Tip: Some rooms will have Lake Champlain views, albeit over downtown buildings. I believe the odd-number...

I want to first thank the staff and management at the Hotel Vermont for taking such good care of my husband while he is working in Burlington... He has been staying at this hotel every week for over 4 months with the possibility of another year's stay... A big shout out to Misty, Abby, Cory, Matt, Jessica, Jessica A, Deb and Hans for always making him feel special... (anyone else I might have forgotten)... And a special thanks to Tim for all those little extras...

I joined my husband on two occasions and the staff made sure we were treated like royalty... Love those rooms on the 6th floor..

Thanks again, see you all in September :)

Room Tip: Liked the regular rooms over the suites with fireplaces... you might ask why.. the suite had an ope...

Burlington has always been a wonderful weekend getaway and now we have a hotel that I will enjoy coming back to. I love the efforts made to be LEEDs certified. The decor is clever and appealing. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The bicycle program is great. The food and beverage options are pretty darn good and atypical of hotel food. Love it

We loved our stay at hotel Vermont. It is very well located, clean, very nice rooms. We got a room on the 6th floor and we enjoyed the fresh food you can find in the café lounge in the afternoon as well as the coffee and tea. The room was comfortable although we found it a bit small for the price. Everyone in the hotel is friendly and they help you out in every possible way. We would go back anytime!

We spent one night there and would have liked to stay longer. It was more than we wanted to spend, but it was WELL WORTH EVERY DOLLAR! It was a great location, it was extremely clean and innovated. The restaurant served a wonderful breakfast farm fresh! We can't wait to go back and visit, this would be the hotel of choice!

Easy walking distance to downtown and waterfront. Very modern, green hotel. Wish we could have stayed longer! Had some kayaking and paddle boarding offered that would have been fun to try. We arrived early and they were very accommodating and stored our things and had our room ready earlier than usual.

even before we arrived at the hotel, we received an email, entitled "we have something planned for you for tomorrow.." upon further reading, we learned that the hotel was offering to take our children to go rock climbing, with an instructor... this touch was new to me and i have never encountered a hotel with such offer... just for this, they deserve high praise...

the organic breakfast was very good... the service all throughout the hotel exceptional... the room (we were four sharing a room with a trundle) was pleasant and modern... we asked for a roll away bed just for a bit more comfort... the hotel is situated right behind the marriott (which, unfortunately takes the view of the lake...

all was well, except for the hotel vermont restaurant delivery truck, who idled his truck between 515am and 600am - something, i am sure, the hotel will look into...
