“Informative & Interesting for cheese lovers”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Tour cost $2/person
You watch a movie; which was average; but you learned about the history and community of Cabot farmers; then you go on a tour of the actual factory. It's interesting to learn how they make cheese. They have colorful posters on the wall explaining the process for younger children. Afterwards, you can sample many kinds of cheese in the shop.

If you are short on time or not a big cheese person; don't go out of your way to come here (took almost 30 min out of the way from Montpelier).

Overall, not a cheesy experience... made me appreciate cheese more.

“Love Cabot Cheese!”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Living in VT for most of my life I'd not had the opportunity to visit the Cabot Creamery. What a treat. The tour price is comparable to the length and content of the tour. First you watch a nicely done and informative video on the cheese co-op industry here in Vermont. The tour around the plant was quick but interesting. We were treated to the making of Hot Habanero cheese, wow our tour guide was right, slowing one by one we each began to sneeze. It was comical, I don't think any of us thought we would succumb to the aroma! The tour ends in the store where you can find cheese and other Cabot products as well as fine other Vermont products. I have been asked for many years why I could each cheddar cheese being a lactose intolerant person, well I found out while at Cabot! I found it lots of fun. A long ride from Central Vermont though give yourself several hours.

“Skip the tour - it's one big commercial”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

Not bad, but don’t be depressed if you miss the tour. It’s certainly fun to visit the Cabot headquarters and sample twenty different cheeses. It’s informative as well to ask questions of the staff. But the tour, itself, was a painful exercise in patience as we were forced to watch a 15-minute infomercial about the farm, its history, unmatched standards of high quality, family values of staff, blah blah. The up close and personal segments were hard to swallow as were the words of appreciation to the community for buying their product blah blah blah.

It felt like one of those extended commercials that just would not end. And by the time the tour guide returned to reinforce the company's key marketing messages and entertain questions about what we had just watched, the once dynamic audience was as silent as a over-milked cow. I felt abused by the propaganda and brainwashing. Even though $2 is a nominal fee, I couldn't believe that a captive audience had to pay ANYTHING to sustain this level of torture.

The last few minutes of the “tour” time were spent visiting the factory and gawking through a series of windows, some excessively foggy, showing cheese being stirred and later packaged by robotic arms, and funny-looking men dressed in white clothing spraying chlorinated foam to disinfect the machinery. Yawn.

Back to the tasting room, we indulged in another pound of samples and left the premises wearing the attractive rubber Cabot bracelet that was needed to enter the aforementioned video propaganda room.

If you come to Cabot, save some time and money, skip the visit, and concentrate on selecting the right cheeses to bring home!

“If you like good cheese, this is Mecca!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

No trip to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is complete without a stop in Cabot to tour the cheese factory. For the incredible price of $2 each, you will be treated to a nicely produced video showing the folks that make up the co-op and the farms they run to produce millions of pounds of milk every week. Following the video, an experienced tour guide will escort you through the plant where you will be given back stage access to one of the most interesting processes I've seen in quite some time. The final stop is at the tasting room where you'll be able to sample over 20 different varieties of cheese. They have most if not all of them for sale right there at a very reasonable price. You can also pick up other Vermont staples such as maple products and local crafts. For a great couple of hours, it is well worth the trip.
