Inn at Charlotte Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 2 Charlotte B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 July 2013

I need a 3.5 Rating, above Average but not quite Very Good. We love staying at B&Bs and try a couple of different ones each year. To break it down:
Great: Location was excellent, 10 minutes from Shelburne Farms, so convenient when we were done with the Cheese Festival. A short walk from Mt Philo, which was a great hike, as challenging as you wanted it to be and stunning views! Breakfast was very good, different but not so out of the norm that most people wouldn't like it, fresh and filling. A guest asked where they go their produce, we all expected to hear a local farm and he named off a local grocery store. Again, not quite what we've had in other B&Bs
Very Good: Master room was very roomy and extremely clean, and right outside the pool, which was also clean and had convenient seats under and arbor
Not so good: Walls are like paper, with rooms surrounding pool and thin walls, really felt more like a motel with a friendly breakfast than a B&B. We could hear every word of the people next door as they chatted at night, so didn't make us feel like we had any real privacy. On the other side of us was the hallway and kitchen and there was alot of banging around of doors throughout the day. Also was a little disconcerted when our bag was moved from where I had left it, and clothes that I had sorted out was all stacked on top. I recognize the cleaner has to clean but Ive never had one move all my stuff around.
First day there, relatives of owners were there with four kids in the pool for hours, teasing one of them quite a bit, to the point where I almost said something but he finally went to get his mother. Again, room is right next to pool, so very noisy in our room as they played or fought.
The room is advertised as shower only, which is correct, except that there is a bathtub, just with pieces removed. I would think that would either be fixed or removed.
Overall, nice visit, but even with great location do not feel that the cost was justified.

Room Tip: Master is large and right next to pool, but walls are very thin

Than you for taking the time to review us. Your points about our location were spot on. We hope all our guests realize how great our location is for stunning walks, Mt Philo, great events like the Cheese Festival, Shelburne Farms, world class concerts, Shelburne Museum, great restaurants, Starry Night Cafe, and much more. Also we are glad you appreciated our breakfasts and cleanliness. We are so sorry that the chldren of our visiting relatives playing in the pool disturbed you. One summer they visited us. It is difficult managing life and innkeeping when one's home is attached to a B&B. We say clearly on our website that we are a family friendly inn. The rooms are all situated in such a way that children never bother other guests at night or in the evening. During the day... Thanks agian for taking the time to review us.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn this summer and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The owner of the place is a great guy. He is well traveled himself, a great host, and good company. The inn itself is surrounded by rolling green VT hills, a beautiful vineyard and right down the road from the best hike in the Burlington area...Mt. Philo. We spent a day riding bikes all over the countryside and visiting the local winery and breweries. It was a great vacation and we will be back with our kids next time. Thanks Duker!

Thank you! I really hope you return with your kids. I truly can not imagine a better place to spend three or four days with one's family than right here in Charlotte. Come see the improvements at the Inn, including 8 free range chickens!

My wife and I have come back to this wonderful little B&B five times now. The location and views are unbeatable, the rooms are well-kept but homey, and Duker and Josephina (the owners) are incredibly friendly and helpful. We'd recommend this for a relaxing vacation or as a home base to explore the area. We'll be going back soon!

Me and my girlfriend stayed for one night on our roadtrip.
We had a wonderful experience, we were met by a very friendly host, the room was perfect, nice and clean.
Eventhough we overslept normal breakfast hours we still got a very nice breakfast.

All our best recommendations.

Elwin and Josphine, thank you for taking the time to write a review! We appreciate it. It was such a pleasure to hear about your experiences in the U.S. and about Denmark and the world's (once) longest bridge. We'd love to see you here in VT again someday!

I can't say enough about the Inn at Charlotte. Beyond the terrific location, near Burlington, Mount Philo State Park, Lake Champlain, wineries, and a ton of other attractions, the hosts Duker and his wife are exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and give you a a personal touch that you can't find at so many places! We stayed for a short time and had an amazing stay, with breakfast prepared each day, dips in the pool, tennis, basketball, and some farming! It was a pleasure to be here and we are definitely going back!

My husband, my almost two year old and myself stayed here for an extended weekend vacation in July. We had a great time! The pool was perfect for the hot days and there was a large tennis court for my daughter to run around on. Breakfast every morning was perfect and our family felt very welcome during our stay. The room was perfect for a family with a separate room for our daughters bed.

My daughter still talks about Dukar's pancakes whenever I make them.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are so happy you enjoyed the Family Room. I remember your daughter and her adorable appreciation of my pancakes and her toddling on the tennis court. I wish summers in VT were four months longer!

We were meeting friends who live in the Charlotte area, and picked this B&B for its location as well as the inviting outdoor areas. The swimming pool, gardens, grape arbor, and tennis court, plus the view of Mt. Philo all make for a pleasant visit. We stayed in the Garden Room, and peaked into the Master Bedroom. Our room was modestly furnished but clean and comfortable; the shower small but functional. The common area included sitting space and a large dining table where we were served a breakfast of French toast and bacon, and enjoyed chatting with the other guests. Duker was friendly and helpful, although never managed to send us an email confirmation of our reservation, despite two promises that he would do so.

We apologize for not ending you an email confirmation. That is a rare thing and we can not imagine how we neglected to do that, but it all worked out.
