“great kitchen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 January 2014

We recently stayed at this Inn for the Christmas holidays . Because of the ice storm , my daughter lost power at her house, but we were able to use the kitchen at the Inn . She brought over her delicious lasagna and we cooked it in the well stocked kitchen and enjoyed a cozy meal . The place was clean - great modern bathroom - gorgeous views . It was very convenient for us as we always look for dog friendly .

We were desperately seeking a last minute getaway over New Years at a place that welcomed our dog. Mt Philo Inn was meant to be! The view from our room in the Left Wing overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains could not be beat. Dave was attentive and accommodating when our extremely challenging family situation delayed our arrival and shortened our departure. Be sure to request that your fridge is stocked with Vermont breakfast products!! The selection is to die for! We ate like kings each morning with local eggs. bacon, coffee, cream, butter, maple syrup and pancake mix. As an experienced cook, I was impressed by the well stocked kitchen cupboards, from dishes to pans to salt and pepper, paper towel and aluminum foil. Other accouterments in the apartment were spot on from the organic VT soaps to the kleenex ... products we usually end up buying or bringing when we stay at a self serve apartment/house. Walk out the back door and enjoy the hike up Mt Philo stunning 360 degree views. Such a great spot for hikers and dog walkers without getting back in your car. Yes, the building is old, built in 1896. That said, with that comes charming characteristics of high ceilings, impressive moldings, tall windows, great floor boards ... and the facilities are in fine condition. Dave and Jane are doing a great job and I encourage them to keep it up. Attention to detail!!! It's the little things that matter!

this review is coming from someone who travels more than 290 days a year all over the world. yes, we know Vermont is a special place unlike many other parts of the country or world. when one travels in the Charlotte area you can not but think of Switzerland and other unique areas in Europe. this inn completes that special feel. sure, chain hotels have their time and place, this isn't it. this inn has a unique flair. Vermont made breakfast products ready for your use in the fridge with a spacious and functional kitchen area. there is nothing chain about the inn. The rooms have been renovated but the special rustic feel has not been removed. if it is a get away with the kids you are after, it couldn't be better. separate rooms and hang out area for the kids. if it is a romantic getaway you are after, you have also found the right place. no one will disturb you unless pure silence is a disturbance.

Room Tip: stunning views from the second floor, but better facilities on the first when it comes to the kitche...

We just finished our fifth stay at the Mt. Philo Inn. accompanied by our dog Buck. Our daughter
is attending the Univ. of Vermont and we discovered this wonderful inn last year. It is about 15
minutes from Burlington and the perfect spot to have our daughter relax, yet be close enough
to get to class while she is staying with us.

It is located next to Mt. Philo, with a path out back leading right to the mountain. Our mornings
are spent walking our dog to the top of the mountain and enjoying the beautiful views.

We love the coziness and spaciousness of the suites at the inn. The suite we usually stay in has
three large bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, and a very large kitchen. This past
weekend it was the perfect spot to have a wonderful brunch for our daughter's friends.
Dave, the innkeeper provided everything we needed for the brunch in a wonderful gourmet gift
breakfast basket!

It is not always easy to find such a dog-friendly inn with such a warm and welcoming innkeeper.
We highly recommend Mt. Philo Inn….

Couldn't of had a more pleasant experience the second weekend of October at the Mt. Philo Inn. This property is beautiful and well maintained, the views are absolutely breathtaking. The inn sits in the shadow of Mt. Philo itself with a path from the property that connects to the mountain hiking trails. The inn keeper couldn't have been more accommodating when my girlfriend became ill the night before our VT weekend, he was very understanding and allowed us to come up the next day and let us stay another night (even though it was literally the busiest weekend all year in VT since it was prime leaf peeping)! Also, we loved the basket of fresh VT goods (eggs, milk, cheese, coffee, etc.) and handmade VT soap. The only thing that would have made the experience any better is to have some VT shampoo, I guess we were supposed to bring our own. Look no further if you're looking for a genuine VT Inn experience conveniently located close to Burlington. [Note: I was born and raised in VT]

Room Tip: All units and rooms are roomy and clean, can't go wrong.

My wife and I and our two dogs can't say enough about Mt Philo Inn.

There is a trail right out the back that leads right up Mt Philo, which has amazing views of the Champlain Valley, especially near sunset.

We stayed in the Right Wing Suite (not a political statement). The suites are roomy with places to sit and read, a small dining table, TV and free wifi, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped which was perfect for nights when we wanted to dine in.

The innkeepers, David and Jane were great, they left us alone to enjoy ourselves but were very responsive if we needed something. This is not a B&B (I can't stand B&B's), so if you want someone to cook you breakfast, this may not be the place for you. But if you want a relaxing spot in a beautiful location this is a great place to stay. And it is really great for the dogs too.

My family was visiting the area for my brother's wedding. Mt Philo Inn was perfect for our group! We stayed in the Right Wing and enjoyed 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It was also wonderful to have a huge kitchen, dining and living room space to relax in during breakfast or after the wedding festivities! The host had a basket of local food in the fridge so we enjoyed eggs, bacon and pancakes for breakfast a few mornings. I also appreciated the responsiveness when we couldn't find an iron and ironing board (produced within an hour).

The building itself and the rooms have character! I loved the history of it! The bathroom I used had an old sink basin that was lovely and this cute tub! The main bathroom upstairs was totally modern and had two sinks. The floors creak a bit when people upstairs are walking during the night, but it never woke me up (I slept downstairs). And because it's right next to the state park, it was very quiet (my room faced the park).

This is a wonderful place for a big group - of friends or family! There is space to unwind or find quiet, but also gathering spots for socializing like the porch and the kitchen/living room.
