six ovens bake dozens of different breads and fresh sandwiches are prepared on the spot. Simple, clean, good service, delicious Anadama bread!

“Bread and Pastries to Die For”
Reviewed 21 October 2009

You have to see this place to appreciate it. You enter through a garden and once inside you feel as though you have entered a cathedral to baking. The building has a vaulted ceiling and is drenched in light and the smell of baking bread is amazing. We took home loaves of crispy French bread with warm soft insides (the owner was trained to bake in France), Anadama bread, and the best chocolate eclairs I've ever had. I would suggest spending some time there to soak up the atmosphere. Inside the bakery is the Phoenix Cafe. They serve a great breakfast.

“Really worth the trip”
Reviewed 1 June 2009

We were researching places in Vermont as well as the Vermont Cheese Trail Tour and Taste and came across this GEM of a place. The smells and tastes are as amazing as the architectural details inside. We stayed for lunch and ordered the smoked salmon quiche (the creamiest quiche I ever ate) and a turkey and bacon sandwich on the most delightful grain bread. The staff was friendly and the place was spotless. We left with a loaf of artisan's bread, sticky buns, ginger cookies (WOW!) and a big smile. Just remember to bring CASH as they do not accept credit cards.

“A must visit if heading to Okemo”
Reviewed 23 February 2008

It does feel like you've passed it and you're heading out of town when on your right it appears in Chester, Vermont. If it's not a Sunday or Monday than the next problem is what not to buy. The smell of bread and pastries fill the high beamed bakery. I always want to get a couple of everything! Even now I'm planning on heading up from Connecticut a couple of hours early so I can get there before the 6pm closing, stuff my car with bags of yummies and head off to my hotel in Okemo.
