“A Welcoming Vermont Destination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2011

If a warm and accommodating staff, delicious meals, a relaxing bar, and a comfortable, secluded inn with an outstanding view of a lake and the Green Mts. are your requirements for a great vacation, Mountain Top Inn must be your destination. We loved it, for the third time.

From the moment we called to make an inquiry and then a reservation, the front desk staff was professional and friendly. Their recommendations were precise and fulfilled all of our needs.

Upon arrival, after a pleasant uphill drive which we knew was taking us away from the vibrant downtown of Rutland, we immediately were embraced by the stillness of the mountains and the views. The staff again was wonderful and explained the special events that were happening, such as their popular brew and burger night, during our August visit. We were there for a special occasion, and our lakeview room was as beautiful as seen online. Even though the inn was busy, we never felt crowded, there being several parlor and game areas. However, with beautiful weather, being outside by the lake or on the trails are the reasons that we come to Vermont.

As stated, this was our third trip. Our first two were to cross-country ski. And, we have already booked a return trip for this March, looking forward to enjoying the trails, this time on skies. The cross country and horseback riding center are within walking distance of the inn, with a very helpful staff.

And, one additional mention of the staff; we cannot thank them enough for directing us to a delicious local bakery, an outstanding florist, and a sweet and warm justice of the peace. Their personal and caring attention to our needs made our special day one that fulfilled all of our expectations. They usually do big, tented weddings, but our's was treated as special as any other. "Thank you" to them, again.

Mountain Top Inn is a classic Vermont inn, due to its location, its offerings, and its staff. It will continue to be a favorite destination for us, whatever season.

Room Tip: The lakeview rooms offer you the sunrise over the lake and mountains.

We feel we have found the perfect spot to host parties for years to come........We rented Mountain Aire Lodge to host a Bridal Shower Weekend. The home was wonderfully decorated -warm and invitng, the kitchen was well equipped and we were treated to wonderful views of the mountains and reservior. The front desk staff was especially helpful - managing all our requests with ease. An overall wonderful weekend.

I attempted to use a voucher purchased on a Living Social deal. The desk clerk informed me that there were no rooms available during the offer period (S-Th), even though the hotel’s booking engine showed otherwise. When brought to the clerk’s attention, I was informed that hotel was getting a better rate with a current Groupon promotional, and that I would need to pay more $$$ to stay in the same room. She then promptly disconnected me. Needless to say, this was a huge turnoff and I’ll be taking my business elswhere. Mountain Top: Honor your contracts and treat your customers with respect. What a disappointment.

Thank you for considering us for your Living Social stay. We are sorry for any miscommunication between our reservations system and yourself; unfortunately these things happen. All of our “flash sales” deals have similar restrictions; we do not give preference to one over the other. Occasionally the popularity of one deal creates demand resulting in sold out dates. Typically there is an additional charge to upgrade to a different room type and also to stay during peak holiday dates. We have been flexible with expiration dates for all of these promotions to accommodate guests as best we can. We would be happy to speak with you directly to sort it all out.
Most sincerely,
Eryn Rishell

My boyfriend and I decided to get away for Thanksgiving this year. We stayed in Rutland, and after doing some research decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at the Mountain Top. I'm so glad that we did! First of all, this place is super romantic. You walk in and are greeted by cozy leather furniture, fireplaces, and an incredible view. We had reservations for the 2:30 seating and arrived a bit early to have a drink at the bar. The bar is very cozy and the wine was reasonably priced and a good pour. We watched them set up the buffet and were drooling as they brought out everything. We were seated at a table for 2 right up against the window overlooking the mountain and reservoir. It was gorgeous and very romantic. There were quite a few families, couples, tables of 3, 10...etc...in a variety of arrangements and only one table was empty. We started out with an incredible butternut squash soup, hot rolls fresh out of the oven, and then hit up the salad, which was the PERFECT salad. How did they know exactly what I like on my salad? :) It was a spring mix and they had goat cheese, candied walnuts, raisins, cranberries, and a wine honey vinegarette for toppings. Then for the main course! They had turkey, prime rib, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green beans, stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce, brussles sprouts with bacon, carrots, and a fantastic dessert bar. I'm a vegetarian and had plenty to eat....way too much actually. My boyfriend said the turkey was the best he'd had in years. The service was perfect. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and prompt. Overall we had a lovely experience and I will be visiting again!!

It’s terrific to hear how much you enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner at The Mountain Top Inn & Resort. Our culinary team takes pleasure in creating menus that appeal to everyone, regardless of preferences; so glad that as a vegetarian there were plenty of options for you. Our hope is that you will make it a Thanksgiving tradition, or perhaps find a reason to return before that. Thank you for sharing with others.

Warm regards,

The view doesn't get much better. Service and rooms were both excellent. The only complaint, our room was over the kitchen (very loud) under another guest room (outrageously squeaky floor) and on the first floor along the street (even the quietest car woke me up). A little sound-proofing would make this a top notch inn.

Just returned from a fabulous stay at the Mountain Top Inn.
Our first night in the Lago Vista Room featured some issues due to some unexpected effects of the heat (ask about that if you're staying in that room this time of year), but the staff was very responsive and moved us to the gorgeous Mountain Air Lodge for the rest of our stay.
The house was perfect and the resort itself is beautiful.
The food in the restaurant is very well made, and the tavern has a nice selection of wines and local beers in a warm setting.
The surrounding area features several nice towns for day trips, and the resort itself has more than enough to keep couples, or families, busy for days.
We'll definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Rooms in the section near the Lago Vista are the warmest in the lodge, which leads to some unwelcome...

We certainly appreciate your positive comments regarding your recent visit to The Mountain Top Inn & Resort. It is our intention to consistently provide a comfortable environment for all of our guests even if it means relocating guests to alternate lodging at our property. As you mentioned, this time of the year when the weather is unseasonably warm we have a challenge with flies who like to gather in the East facing suites due to the expansive, sun filled windows. Although our housekeeping staff is aware of the situation, unfortunately we did not keep up with the situation prior to your arrival. Fortunately you were able to enjoy one of our vacation rentals and the many great features of the Resort. We are glad that you will ‘definitely’ be back.

Sincerely,

Khele Sparks

In the peak leaf season we stayed at the Mountain Top Inn for my son's wedding. The hotel was lovely, the food terrific, and the wedding was beyond amazing. We went to have an outdoor ceremony and unfortunately it rained all weekend! We stressed about it so much in the end, it really didn't matter! It was such a magnificent setting that everyone could see why the kids pick it for a destination wedding. Chelsea Howe, our wedding coordinator, was excellent at making the entire weekend run smoothly, she was relaxed and unflappable, which kept us all calm. From the welcome BBQ to Saturday late afternoon wedding to Sunday brunch, if you are thinking of having an intimate, beautiful wedding, I would highly recommend the Mountain Top Inn! We stayed in the High Meadow suite, great views, spacious, saw about 4 or 5 other rooms family were staying in and liked them all. It was clean, staff was helpful. There are many public areas to congregate in and it was relaxing to just hang with our guests, we took over the entire inn. Some of our guests stayed at the Chalet homes, although I never made it out of the inn they reported they were great as well. If you are looking for a VT destination wedding I would say look no further! Thanks so much Mountain Top for an amazing wedding weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the lake!
