Whenever I have had enough of my job and the stress of every day life, I and my wife take a two(2) hour sojourn to our favorite overnight getaway. My most recent stay , as always, included a clean room, friendly staff, fantastic food from a top shelf kitchen, a great wine list, reading by a quiet fireplace, all topped off by a full traditional Yankee Breakfast. My only regret when I leave is that I have to leave, but I always know that I will be returning soon to recharge my batteries. Its proximity to Manchester outlets, nature walk paths, and a friendly movie house makes it all the more appealing. The Owners and their staff know how to make all visitors welcome. Neil from Amherst, NH

Room Tip: I have stayed in all the second floor rooms and they have been spacious and comfortable.

We were excited to stay her after reading all the reviews. Our stay was less than we expected. The staff was very rude, not welcoming and made us feel like we were bothering them just asking questions. The room they gave us, they said, was one of their best. I would have hated to see the others than. Although clean, it was very small. Roll out of bed and you were in the bathroom, literally. The noise from the front entrance that was directly below us was all night . The street noise was loud. When trying to make a reservation for the tavern, we were told " of course you need one, we are very busy you know" The menu was over priced for a tavern atmosphere, no different than the full dining room. We had been in Vermont all week at another place and decided to try this Inn. They could take a few pointers on how to make guests feel welcome and inviting as that is part of the whole "inn in Vermont" stay. When I approached the woman at the front desk during check out to let her know, she was actually angry and told me that she really did not believe it. All in all, with several other little things that had happened, we would not recommend this place. There are several other lovely Inn's and B&B's that do give you the whole Vermont experience. This is not , in our opinion one of those. For what you pay, as I was told, I guess we should have been ok with it all, after all breakfast is free..Their words, not mine.

Room Tip: Find another Inn, There are several others in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to express your views of our Inn. We are very sorry that your overall experience was not as you expected. As you say and can see by the following reviews our track record is on the exceptional side. But that doesn't matter if you did not have the same experience. Your room, The Ethan Allen room is a smaller queen, but one of our most requested rooms for the view of the village green and coziness. Unfortunately on the morning you stayed the town started a noisy construction project very early on the green and we have spoken with our town manager to express our dismay. This will not happen again. Also because of the age of the Inn, most of the rooms face the village -- back when there was just horse traffic, this was a plus! We have fully insulated and installed new windows to diminish the village noises. We have also passed on your comments to the desk person at arrival regarding your less than warm reception. This will also be corrected.

Our breakfast is not "free" but included in our room rates and it is your choice to partake or not. We do consider it among our best features as guests are invited to order from a full breakfast menu with a wide range of dishes. The Tavern is a very popular dining spot for locals and guests. We do our utmost to accommodate all of our guests but during the peak foliage season, reservations fill in quickly.

Our morning Innkeeper certainly realized how upset and angry you were at checkout. I'm sorry that you did not mention in your comments that at that point we applied a credit to your final bill and emailed you a personal apology. We know it does not nearly make up for a bad experience, but we want you to know that we were as upset as you and that we and all of our staff strive to offer the best experience possible to our guests.

Once again, thank you for your time.

Delicious food, romantic atmosphere, a must when visiting the area. If you're from NYC like myself you won't fall out of your chair when you see the prices for food and drink. It is quite expensive but well worth the money. Service is promptly and friendly. Most of the food items are fantastic.

This is my second visit to the Dorset Inn in Dorset, Vermont. This was a "sisters" weekend. Upon late arrival, we were still able to be seated for a delicious meal. The roasted duck is to die for, as well as each and everything on their menu. Our accommodations include a wonderful breakfast each morning. Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate is offered throughout the day, and mid afternoon you can usually find a little "treat" downstairs to tie you over til' dinner. The living room has a huge fireplace where we were lucky enough to enjoy a late afternoon bottle of wine. We had the Kent Suite which had a hide-a-bed, and king sized bed in the bedroom. A whirlpool was in the bathroom to accommodate any of us who needed a little soothing from a long day of shopping at the Manchester Designer Outlets. I highly recommend the Dorset Inn. Their staff are all friendly and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is enjoyable. My "sisters" are already booked there again next year at this time!

Room Tip: I highly recommend the suites, especially the ones with fireplaces. It just adds to your experience...

Thank you for taking the time to make these lovely comments. We are so delighted that you and your "sisters" came to stay and had a chance to experience The Dorset Inn to its fullest. The living room is the best with the roaring fire and a glass of wine. The suites are extra special with the extra amenities and space for a family to enjoy. We could tell you were having a great time. We loved hosting you all and we look forward to your return visit next Fall!

This small upscale hotel/inn is perfect for a quick getaway, a longer stay, or eating out. Our suite was wonderful with fireplace in the living room, king-bed with nice linens in the bedroom, and luxury bath that included a giant shower plus separate spa tub. Robes were a welcome touch. The Tavern was very popular and nearly full so, we enjoyed cocktails with friends in front of the fireplace in the adjacent sitting/living room. Then on to the dining room for a terrific dinner starting with calamari for the table and continuing with well prepared entrees and some fine wine. The next morning, we were served a delightful breakfast, from the menu, in the "bright & sunny" breakfast room. All in all, a really special experience.

Our first time at Dorset Inn and it could not have been more pleasant, from front yard welcoming the fall season, to the back yard with lovely flowers and vegetables it was very charming. The food was exquiste, the wine flowing endlessly and our rooms comfortable and welcoming. It was truly a fine experience.

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is excellent, the ambiance is very nice-- very Vermontish-- and the service was excellent. If you are visiting this area, I highly recommend dining here.
