“Cozy and a great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2011

Reasonable rate, especially for a holiday weekend. Friendly innkeepers. Cute, although lackluster "downtown" area right outside the door. Great launching pad for trips to Manchester and the surrounding area. No need to pay excessively high prices at fancier locations. Room was a good size, simple but comfortable. Would return.

The Dovetail Inn provides a great location for exploring a very picturesque area of Vermont, loaded with quaint villages, natural beauty, beautiful streams, great swimming holes, fine dining and most of all - relaxation when you want it.

Jean & Jim Kingston do a great job of pampering to the needs of their guests. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. Breakfast of fresh baked muffins, scones, fruit, coffee, tea and juice, not to mention conversation about recommendations for the day, really set the table for a wonderful stay. They are both very knowledgable about the area and things to do. They provided great suggestions based on what the guests indicate they would like to do, and it was fun to chat about the history of the area with them.

We took advantage of kayaking one of the nearby rivers with Battenkill Canoe, hiking and swimming in Merck Park, and dining in restaurants both in Dorset as well as nearby towns. "The Barn" restaurant in nearby Pawlet is a great value with excellent food - you will not leave hungry! Manchester Center and its outlet shopping, dining options and weekly farmers' market is just down the road. The Dorset Historical Society Museum is worth a visit to learn about the marble history of the area.

It was always nice at the end of a day out to come back to the Dovetail, grab something cold to drink, and sit on the front porch in the rocking chairs. The location is ideal (in the middle of the village of Dorset), the Dorset Union Store (they have a bit of everything) is right across the street, and if you don't want to drive anywhere to find dinner, there are 4 or 5 excellent restaurants within easy walking distance.

We truly enjoyed our stay there and would go back to the Dovetail the next time we visit that part of Vermont.

We stayed a night in Dorset at the Dovetail Inn. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, had a flat screen TV that we did not turn on and free wi fi. The innkeepers, Jim and Jean were incredibly hospitable. When Jean learned I was unable to contact the restaurant to confirm the evening's reservation, she called the place for me and confirmed. At this writing, that area of Dorset does not have cell service (at least not Verizon) though Jean tells me there is a new tower going up that should solve the problem. The building is very old but the rooms have modern conveniences. The Inn offered a complimentary continental breakfast featuring scones and muffins Jean baked that morning. We learned a good deal about the area and its history from chatting with Jim and Jean over breakfast. One minor issue is that parking is in the rear of the building in a gravel lot with access to the building down an uneven marble path. Not a problem on a dry day or in daylight, but on a rainy night requires extreme care. All in all, though, a very pleasant stay.

Although we had to cancel our two reservawtions because of medical reasons there was no hesitation in returning our deposit. While making our reservation Jean gave us many tips about what to do in the area. Both she and Jim have a great sense of humor. We look forward to staying with them in the future.
