We spent two nights using a TravelZoo coupon. Everything was wonderful including the service, the food, and the free included massage for both of us. What a wonderful bargain. My wife enjoyed the nearby discount malls.

We had a destination wedding here at the Essex for about 120 people. The location was perfect, the staff was wonderful and the four day stay was a delight. The wedding itself was in the Atrium room, the reception was at their location up on a mountain called the Pond.
The Essex, being a Culinary resort, had wonderful food and snacks. Could not have been better. While the location by some would be considered remote we had guests from as far away as CA, TX and MT and the connections to Burlington made it easy.

Room Tip: All Rooms are first class

My husband and I stayed at the Essex Resort & Spa for two nights. It was amazing! Our room was clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious! The front desk was very polite and helpful as was housekeeping when we had an added request! We took one of their cooking classes led by a professional chef and were very glad we did; shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, beef tenderloin, baked potato, creamed spinach and topping it off was our dessert of brownies and ice cream! Yummy!!! We had the breakfast but we had other plans and did not use the spa or any of the other facilities offered by the Essex which I understand are many. We did take the Fall Foliage Tour and had a picnic lunch provided by the Essex. An added 'plus' were the outlets a short distance away! We had an excellent couple days and would suggest that you stay with them on your next visit to the Burlington area!

We spent a few days at this hotel and found it to be a lovely hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated in a country style. We enjoyed a couple of walks in the neighbourhood. It was interesting seeing what the chefs had made and also nice to be able to buy their creations in the foyer.

Room Tip: The rooom we stayed in was spacious and had a window looking over the grounds. ( I think they all do)

Dear LazylillieCapetown,

The Essex Resort & Spa has 120 unique guestrooms each with its own personality, amenities and features and I am happy we found the one that was perfect for you. The surrounding neighborhood is great for a stroll. Many of our guests find it enjoyable to explore and look at the many different styles of homes along the way. Additionally, while we are secluded, we are walking distance to the Essex Outlet Mall and Cinema. Our lobby demonstration bakery is an extension of our fully equiped on-site bakery that is responsible for all of our tasty desserts and baked goods including bread.
Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your experiences.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend with my dog at the Essex to participate in their "Top Dog" weekend. First the positives: the grounds are beautiful (though very close to the highway and a set of outlets) and the staff was very welcoming. We very much appreciated the hospitality and the attention to detail they put in to the "dog" elements of the weekend from the freshly baked treats to the guided walk at a local park. Jim and his staff were very polite and seemed genuinely enthusiastic to have us for the weekend. Now, the negatives: the room we booked was supposed to have a king-sized bed and a fireplace (which we paid a premium for, especially in this area of Vermont in "off" season) and upon arrival we were told that this room type was not available so we were "upgraded" to a larger suite that had neither a king bed nor a fireplace. While we appreciated the "upgrade," the suite was dated (wall-paper peeling from the walls), the bedroom was noisey and EXTREMELY small --- the door nearly did not close because of the bed (which we were told was a queen but believe was actually a double) and there was a small, gas stove instead of a real fireplace that did not work. I cannot speak for other rooms, but for a place that advertised "fireplace" rooms with a picture of a real fireplace, a tiny, non-working gas stove is not a subsititute. As far as food, we ordered room service the first night due to cold and rainy weather and were generally unimpressed for a "culinary" resort. Nothing terrible but nothing notably good either.

Overally, we enjoyed the people we met at the Essex but for the price, the amentities and rooms were disappointing. We have stayed at a number of other New England resorts of similar types with our dog for better prices and much better accommodations.

Dear NYCTraveler323,

Thank you for joining us for another successful Top Dog Weekend at the Essex Resort & Spa and for sharing the many positive aspects of the event and property. I very much enjoyed meeting you and Max, and am sorry to now learn that you didn’t enjoy every aspect of your stay.

With regard to our location and others that may be reading this, I would like to add some clarity. We are just under a mile away from a 2-lane “highway” and the Essex Outlets & Cinema. While these are nice attractions and conveniences for our resort guests, neither can be seen nor heard from our 18 acre campus.

Your compliments of the event and staff will be shared with all of the associates as this is a great way to thank them for the amazing efforts they put forth each day. In following up on the room situation, I’ve now learned that our Director of Reservations, Kyle Palmer, spoke to you directly regarding you room. He does acknowledge that your request for a king bed with a fireplace was present. However, one that met this criteria and that was pet friendly was not available during your stay with us. Therefore, Kyle upgraded you to a much larger suite at no additional expense and provided you with breakfast vouchers as a gesture of goodwill. The handcrafted Vermont Castings gas stove in your room is a favorite of many of our guests. It was found to be operational and your comment around its functionality has prompted us to explore better operating signage in the room. Further, our Director of Facilities is having the wallpaper you mentioned repaired today.

Our culinary team loves when guests enjoy the food they prepare but also appreciate critiques as a way to constantly improve. Would you please provide me with more details as to what did not meet your expectations regarding the room service meal?

Again, it was great having you with us and I’m sorry that we ultimately did not meet your expectations, but I very much appreciate your feedback. I hope that we might have the chance to have you and Max back with us in the future.

Sincerely,
Jim Glanville
General Manager
