This trip was to visit family in the area. It is a lovely property on many manicured acres.
The grounds are very pretty with hammocks placed here and there, and vegetable
gardens behind the outside portion of the restaurant. The indoor pool is a very large lap
pool with a hottub right outside. The outdoor pool is on the smaller side but very nice.
The towels for the pools were plentiful and well placed at poolside.
We received a room upgrade as the hotel was not totally booked. The room was very
attractive and the beds so comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed with nice
toiletries, shower cap, sewing kit, etc. The room had a fireplace and seating area.
The basic room charge was the same as the generic chain hotels. There is a "resort charge" of $20.00 per day. It was so worth it to stay in such a lovely venue. There was
a wedding there and they had perfect outdoor spot at a gazebo with chairs set up on the very green lawn. My family would definitely recommend The Essex Resort

Room Tip: We had a room at the restaurant end of the second floor, so we had windows on two sides

Stayed with friends during Easter weekend. Unfortunately the heating/air-con kept me awake. First night 73dB (thanks to decibel measuring app) - after complaining just below 70. Too noisy to sleep, so it had to be switched off. Not very pleasant.
No dinner reservation possible for hotel guests. We were provided with a buzzer and told that we would have to wait for 45 minutes. After 60 minutes and no buzzing we went down and asked. Surely there should be the service of calling in-house guests in case of a delay. Other guests were told that ordering room-service would be quicker.
No "How did you like your stay? Good-bye" at check-out
Quality of food was good but won't be coming back

Dear Petra Doris L,

Thank you for choosing to enjoy your Easter with the Essex Resort & Spa.
I am sorry to hear the climate control unit in your room was a disturbance to you. We too have used decibel monitors and have found them to be far lower than your results. Even so, it is unfortunate that you found the levels to be unacceptable. Our guests and locals alike love our restaurants and we are a victim of our own success at times. We have a greater demand than we have space to accommodate. With the warmer months we now have our outdoor patio open and thus and increase in seating space. Please consider a return visit as I am sure we can provide you with the level of service and care you would expect from us.

We stayed here because we were invited to a wedding. Very nice place, staff very pleasant. Accomidations were fine and not to far from down town Burlington. Didn't use any of the activities on the grounds, pool, rental bikes, etc. We did eat breakfast in the restaurant , it was good, but expectation of the food was high, due to the culinary school. My only comment that I have is the noise (people walking/ talking, flushing toilets) from the hall and adjacent rooms seemed louder than other hotels I have stayed it.

The wedding was wonderful. Held outdoors, beautiful day. Reception area was perfect and the food here was superior to any banquet type food I have ever had.

Quiet, friendly and near great shopping. You also have to take a cooking class where you get to eat what you prepared with a fun and knowledgeable teacher. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Having stayed in two different buildings of this complex, rooms in both were very quiet.

Dear GranmaLovestoTravel,

I am delighted to hear you had a great time. Our Cook Academy classes are the single most popular activity for our guests. So much so we are putting in place more Chefs to accommodate the demand. We consider them all our very own celebrity chefs...each one a talented culinary artist that just has fun cooking and sharing their knowledge.

It had been many years since visiting this area of Vermont. What an incredible experience staying at the Essex. Everything was absolutely perfect. I watched the grandchildren as their Mom attended the board meeting for New England Inns and Resorts. We loved seeing the garden and chickens out back for a real farm fresh experience. I can't wait to return with my wife.

Dear Waterfront,

So nice to hear you had a great time and that you were able to watch your grandchildren. Our Director of Culinary Operations, Chef Shawn Calley is currently working with some of his local farmers to have pigs and other farm animals on sight. This will be part of his efforts to support and showcase his network of purveyors but mostly to provide some fun for our guests of all ages.

I was a bit skeptical about staying here after reading some of the reviews. I am definatly happy I decided to stay. What a great place and a nice change from the typical chain hotel. The palce is dated but that is what gives it the charm. rooms are wondefully quaint and clean. Makes you feel like your in your bedroom at home. My robe even fit. The food was great along with the service. It was a rainy day when I stayed but they offer bikes to ride along bike paths with a great gym and spa. I can imagine the setting in the fall. a must stay! I will be back.

Dear BWOLFF,

Thank you for the wonderful comment about our resort. Many of us have years of experience in large chain hotels and are here because we love the small, intimate and personal environment we have at the Essex Resort & Spa. We are essentially a large country inn that provides us the opportunity to meet our guests and have a great time every day.
Your praise and recognition mean the world to us.

I stayed here for a business trip. I stayed in the main building on the second floor. I had a single room with a queen bed. The room is very clean and a decent size. The bathroom was cleaned and stocked with spa type toiletries. It is very quiet and peaceful on this property. The food was incredible and the bed is so soft. The pool is small but nice. The hammocks and fire pit could add a romantic touch if you were here with a special someone for a quiet get away.
