“Great hosts, great breakfasts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2013

Eight of us spent five nights at the Sinclair Inn the last week in August. One couple had made the arrangements and upon arrival we were surprised to find that the Inn was now owned by a new couple, Don and Tom, and we were only their second guests. Well, there were absolutely no problems with the two being new, first time B&B owners! Everything went more than smoothly.
While the Inn is a Victorian house, it is very comfortable with ample common rooms and very nice, spacious bedrooms. Don is the cook and Tom the server at breakfast (and the talker!). The five breakfasts were remarkable; with every one delicious, ranging from eggs hollandaise to blueberry pancakes.
The area has some really good restaurants, for example, those in nearby Richmond, especially the Kitchen Table. Our stay in the area was a great success and the Inn and the hosts made it all the better. I recommend the Sinclair highly.

Room Tip: #5 is a queen room with two comfortable chairs. It is toward the back, which minimizes traffic noise...

As one couple of a group of four couples, we stayed at the Sinclair Inn for five nights in late August 2013. To our great surprise, the Inn had changed ownership two days before our visit and was in the hands of two new innkeepers, Dan and Tom. Our concern that this would make a difference for this fine inn was immediately disarmed by the friendly reception we received from Dan and Tom. Although they have never run an inn before, they have a natural knack for it. Tom is a chatty and very engaging host, while Dan is quieter and a remarkably gifted cook (with previous experience as a chef). We are convinced that this will remain a top-notch inn.

The breakfasts at the Sinclair Inn are simply superb. Each of the five days brought us a new experience and each of these was very creative. First each day came a fruit course, nicely presented and with an interesting combination of flavors. The, the main hot dish arrived and here in most cases the real creativity emerged. The presentation was very nice and the flavor combinations were excellent. A quiche with spinach and mushrooms was delicious. Another day we had perfectly poached eggs, in a cup formed by ham and a bit of pesto and other ingredients. Each day at the end of the day we could find in the dining room some treat – cookies, a coffee cake, etc., all home baked. You will remember the food at this inn for a long time.

The inn is located directly on Vermont route 15 and has a lovely garden with a small water feature. Plans for the future are to expand the garden toward a creek at the edge of the property, and Tom has considerable experience with gardening. The location on route 15 does result in modest road noise, primarily during the morning commute. But, for our group of four couples this did not cause a problem. A light (and late) sleeper might want to opt for one of the rooms further to the rear of the inn. The inn has window air conditioners and in the warm weather these have a continuous fan setting, which can be used to provide a bit of constant purring if that is desirable. There are also thick light-blocking curtains that absorb sounds when they are lowered. The inn itself was constructed in the vicinity of 1895 and is in exceptional condition. We found things to be sparkling clean in all areas, including the bathrooms. Some Victorian inns can be cluttered and have an old feeling. Not this one. This inn really is a remarkable place. You will want to return. We certainly do – as much for the pleasant interactions with the owners as for the inn itself.

The six rooms are all a bit different, but each has its own full bathroom. Our recollection is that there are two rooms with kings, and the others have queens, and one includes an additional twin. The rooms with kings are larger than the others and one of these appears to be accessible to those with physical disability – there is a very large walk in shower. The beds are comfortable. There are adequate chairs. There are complementary soft drinks and water in a small refrigerator on the second floor. Also there is a coffee machine that uses one-shop containers. Those who used the coffee machine liked the result. Each night after you return from dinner you will find a small chocolate treat beside each pillow. The main floor has a formal dining room and two sitting rooms with very comfortable chairs and couches. There is a large selection of current magazines of all types along with a couple of newspapers.

We found to our substantial surprise that within about 15 or 20 minutes we found some very very good restaurants. Search Richmond Vermont and you will find some; search Essex and you will find others. And, of course, there are good restaurants and lots to do in Burlington, which is about 30 minutes away.

So, to repeat – this is one fine inn and the new owners aim to keep it an exceptional experience for anyone who visits. Based on what we observed within a few days of their taking over the inn, their natural instincts and skills will ensure that the Sinclair Inn will remain excellent. We plan to return.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear are quieter. All are comfortable.

Beautifully decorated Victorian mansion, with all the details of the original architect owner. All rooms have full baths and unique antiques. Jericho is a great location just outside the Burlington, Vt chaos, at the base of the Green mountains.

Owners are great hosts and treat you as a guest in their home. Do not sleep in and miss her amazing breakfast.

Room Tip: It is worth finding!

Just one night, as part of a three day jaunt around VT. Met by Don & Nimmie and made to feel immediately at home as they showed us around the Inn and took us up to our rooms. After consulting them both, it was decided to visit the Inn at Essex for dinner - an excellent recommendation. After a somewhat restless night in very comfortable beds ( the Inn is on Route 15 and the bedrooms needed double glazing to deaden the traffic noise) we came down to a lovely breakfast of fresh fruits on yoghurt and Granola, followed by fresh waffles with sausage. My companion, who is diabetic , was also well catered for with scrambled egg on toast. And so we left, happy to have found this little gem of an Inn

The owners of the Sinclair Inn could'nt have been kinder.
Our stay over the weekend was perfect.
The room was beautiful and the bed and cot were both incredibly comfortable (with lots of extra pillows and bedding.) The entire B&B was spottlessly clean and tastefuly decorated.
My daughter and I have difficult eating habbits. And Memmi made delicious breakfasts to suite our needs.
They payed close attention to us all weekend, to make sure we were happy and finding our way around the area easily.
I highly suggest the Sinclaire Inn. And we are looking forward to going back again.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Sinclair Inn for 5 nights while I was working on my motorcycle at the Classic Bike Experience in Essex. Don and Nimmie are wonderful hosts and made me feel at home during my entire stay. The Inn is welcoming, the rooms are comfortable, and the breakfasts are superb. Don and Nimmie were very helpful in suggesting places to go for dinner and to watch the Bruins game. Don also gave me suggestions for a great ride through the mountains. I highly recommend the Sinclair Inn and I look forward to visiting there again (soon!!!).

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Sinclair Inn. Our first impression as we walked through the door was of a well tended beautiful establishment. The property is well maintained and tastefully decorated with fresh flowers throughout. We arrived in the late afternoon after a long drive and the choice of fresh baked goodies was a welcome surprise. Nimmie gave us directions to the fastest route to Burlington where we strolled around and had dinner. The comment about the comfy bed is true and in addition the sheets were very good quality. I told Nimmie that I like to walk in the early morning and she suggested that I try Mills Riverside Park, which was less than 1/2 mile down the road. I returned in time for a delicious breakfast of a cheese blintz concoction that would be worth finding the recipe. Since it was a full house, we had an interesting breakfast conversation with other guests. Our next stop was Montreal and Nimmie suggested that travel via the Champlain Islands. She even provided me with directions and a map. The innkeepers make this destination exceptional in every way. Thanks!
