I think the comments about the owner/front desk guy are very unfair. He is a little more enthusiastic greeting his guests than other clerks i have met, but that doesnt make it bad!

We asked to check our room before we signed, explained we'd stayed in some bad hotels before, and it wasnt a problem. Just said to come back whenever to sign our credit reciept.

The hotel has plenty of parking, and we had a nice big, comfy, clean room.

The bathroom has free toiletries and if youve forgot anything you can go grab it from the front desk. Our room also had coffee/tea maker, a fridge and a microwave.

The breakfast is 'to go', so you go down to the front desk and grab it from the clerk. It has fruit juice, a pastry and a piece of fruit. The pastry is very very nice :)

The pool is nice and its in a nice little village, and its a good base for exploring the southern vermont area.

Especially for the price, this hotel is excellent

  • Liked — Wifi, friendly staff, clean comfy room, good price...
  • Tips/Secrets — if you want anything, just ask for it. The front desk is very helpful

Can someone please tell me what's up with the owner of the Ludlow Best Western? When we entered the lobby, this man (the owner) told us to wipe our feet like we were little children or something. Very strange man. And the woman in the office, what a whack job she was! They both made my husband and I feel uncomfortable. Then after we checked in we found that the hotel does not fully hold itself accountable for when there are dangerous regular guests that threaten other people staying there. We were kept awake for hours by a noisy guest who was rude and swearing, the other drunk, and threatened my husband, when he nicely asked them to stop the noise or move to the lobby. The owner claimed that their only responsibilty was to move us at one in the morning to another room. My child was sleeping. The other guest was dangerous, but because he is a regular he is allowed to run the hotel. I could not believe the reponse we got to this problem. Next time people should call the police directly, and not the owner if there is a problem there. My advice, STAY AWAY!!!

My husband and I and another couple stayed here March 19-21. It was a last minute ski trip and we made reservations at 11 PM the night before we left. The manager Dennis was very nice and booked us into a rental apartment instead of 2 rooms. We told him that we would be arriving late the next evening and he was up waiting for us when we arrived. From reading a previous review I thought late night arrivals might be a problem, but everything was fine. He even gave us pre packed breakfasts for the next morning. The apartment was actually half a house with its own separate entrance. It was spotless and completely furnished. There were 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, kitchen and dining room. You would never guess that this was a chain hotel! The decor was kind of country and reminded me of a grandma's house, but everything was clean and in good condition. There was also a supply closet in the living room with extra towels, pillows and soap. There is daily maid service, but you have to wash your own dishes (there was a dishwasher). We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. I had prepaid for one night. When we arrived, I requested a preview of my room before paying for the rest of the stay. The desk clerk refused to show me my room and also refused to refund the first night! Therefore, we had to stay or we'd lose $119 for the night. He then said he'd give us a "special" room (I couldn't preview the accomodations but he upgraded my room after I paid!). There was also very noticeable alcohol on his breath. Our room was small, and on the town's primary road (a bit noisy), but otherwise okay. We thought we could get through the stay if we avoided interactions with the hotel staff. Suddenly, however, the TV did not work on the second night. We knocked on the locked reception door at around 10PM to see if they could fix or replace the TV. The same clerk came to the door and appeared angry at having been disturbed and said he'd take care of it and slammed the door.

Ludlow is a lovely town with terrific townspeople. I'd encourage others to stay in Ludlow but at a different hotel until the management of the Colonial changes.
